Apparently, the Columbia City Book Fest Website Is Live

Posted by on Mon, Jul 20, 2009 at 12:21 PM

Here. And now it's calling itself the Seattle Book Fest instead of the Columbia City Book Fest. Besides that information, there's not a whole lot of new news about the Book Fest from the website that I haven't already written about a week and a half ago here and here.

Though the website promises "dozens of local writers and bookstores," it offers only six examples of each. For authors:

Matt Briggs | Jennie Shortridge | Michael Gruber
Garth Stein | Nancy Rawles | Jerome Gold

For exhibitors:

Seattle Weekly | Bookworm Exchange | Black Heron Press
Rose Alley Press | Seattle Scrabble Club | Daily Planet Press

If they have more examples of either, I'd like to urge them to put them up on the website as soon as possible. October isn't that far away, and they really need to start building buzz.

An email contact instead of a street address might be helpful too, unless I just missed it somehow.

This is going to fucking rock, especially with the light rail connecting our neighborhood to the rest of the city. Maybe it will become a yearly event? Oh I'm tingly all over!

At this point the only contact email is for Paul Doyle at the Columbia City Cinema: columbiacity@comcast.net

I don't know, I find the street address helpful.

they've added a few more authors and exhibitors.

Why isn't the Stranger on this list? (hint, hint).

The event is very grass roots (ie: underfunded) but has a lot going for it. The location, which is quite open to such events, has an independent bookstore, and is close to light rail. There are some respected members of the literary community helping out, including Matt Briggs and Jerome Gold. I think the organizers can be cut a little slack here. Nope, you won't see Dave Barry read, like at the old Bookfest, but is that a bad thing?

I'm a recent addition to the lineup. I've got a photo-graphic novel that's Jason and the Argonauts in space. It's called Crater on the Moon (story of a space marine) and I'll bet you've seen nothing quite like it. I'm local (Ballard) and I do virtually the entire project all by myself. That might be story you've missed.

www.crateronthemoon.blogspot.com (for the most recent work...)

Come to the Bookfest and come say hello!
