Just got back. I didn't see any sore dicks, but I did see a lot of Chelsea fans with chapped lips from sucking off their overpaid heroes. Every single player on their team earns more in a week than, say, Alonso earns in a year. We represented very well, and 65,250 fans is a pretty impressive showing. My seats were right by the entrance to the tunnel, so I got to tell Michael Ballack what a wanker he is up close and personal; I know he saw me. Mrs. Fnarf rescued me from being attacked by a hundred Chelsea idiots on the way out.

I gotta say, though, they're better than us. The way they play defense, we didn't have a chance -- our two big offensive moves, either running the ball straight at the goal mouth (until it's stripped away) or the cross that is knocked away every single time by the second defender, weren't going to work today. I wish we could do that move. Montero's nice but he's no Anelka.

But it was fun. Now I'm watching the tape!

PS: real grass on the Qwest pitch was pretty nice.

PPS: Joe Mallahan's people passing out "yellow cards" before the match ("tell the current mayor, two yellows and you're out") is funny.

They put proper turf down? I didn't realize!

Sounders FC did pretty well against a team whose salary was 10x ours...

oh, and f*#& Chelsea!

Was there @section 117.

Good day for soccer.

Chelsea looked like a cat playing with a ball of yarn (Sounders).

Coolest thing were the Brits in the audience wearing blue Chelsea lion jerseys.

Chelseans looked like Seattlites only with bigger noses.

You were just on the other side of the tunnel from me in 114, Guru. You aren't a big bald angry-looking dude, are you? You should have waved.

I'm waving now.

@4 Not really.

@9 Yeah the yellows cards were pretty clever. Seem to have a fair number of volunteers out as well. His two 'fouls' however seemed kind of minor. Especially the whole snow thing. I mean really, do people still give a shit about the fact that Seattle sucks at handling the one major snow storm we get every decade.

I thought we played pretty well. Our team is less than year old and we were playing against one of the best English teams. We put some pressure on, made some great saves, and held our own. Sure we lost, but really winning was always an unlikely proposition. Give us another 10 years and I think we'll be able to play on equal footing.

chelsea was bigger and faster, no question. we've lost to worse teams. hadn't been to a game yet - very fun, great crowd! lighten up, trolls, try to get some pleasure out of life.

Mother fucking sounders fans were filling up the Int'l dist light rail lines when I was just trying to get down to the north bound platform to listen to the live music guest: Polka Dot Dot Dot

I didn't manage to get a ticket to the game, but I went to the free open practice for Chelsea the day before. The Chelsea players seem like a group of classy guys, no worse than any other professional athletes. The hate is undeserved. Drogba even came over to sign autographs for the unwashed masses.

The Seahawks have bigots, violent drunks, and drunk drivers in their ranks, by comparison.

The light rail barely managed to handle the crush due to the game.

On the other hand, the bus system frequently backs up too, so no real complaints, other than I was hoping we'd be in 1st place not 3rd ... (dang)

What are you talking about, Will? We're in 2nd place, not 3rd, and yesterday's game was a friendly and doesn't count in the standings.

The crush on the train wasn't because of the game, fool. Did you even bother to go to either?

Max, the hate is always deserved when it's Chelsea. I don't know how many drunk drivers there are on that team, but there are several unsportsmanlike players, led by Ballack, Drogba, and Bosingwa. Or didn't you see the Champion's League semi? Those players are sitting on match bans because of it.

But they could be genuine Sons of Angels and still merit buckets and buckets of hate. Because they're Chelsea.

PS - the Golden Scarf went to DALE FUCKING CHIHULY, which is just tragic. They need to stop this Roman-Empire ceremony NOW. The fat bastard looked like he didn't even know where he was; and later, when he passed some disgusting dildo-ish "Emerald Sceptres" or whatever the fuck they were, I nearly vomited. So terrible.

After the first couple of these, the recipients haven't had anything to do with soccer -- Jim Mora, the entire Seattle Storm (I guess it takes several women to amount to as much as a man, even a barely-alive one like Chihuly), Lorenzo Romer -- GIMME A BREAK.

And the whole ceremony, where the lassies in their gold lame outfits carry the scarf in it's own coffin down the red carpet to the center spot, while imperial trumpets play -- WHAT THE FUCK?

@20 - so now you're hating on Chihulhy? Sorry I'm not an obsessive sports stats geek like u r, and even if I know way better glass blowers than him, still ... that's low.

21. I dunno, Fnarf... outside of Kasey Keller himself, how many real soccer-related celebrities are there in the PNW, let alone Seattle? How many US soccer celebrities are there period?

I'd be unhappier about the irrelevance as well if not for that... though it wouldn't hurt to get some local people of interest who actually follow the team and give a crap.

What I'm saying is: don't do it at all. It's tragic, and cartoon-imperialistic.

Will, you do not know "better glass blowers" than Chihuly.

Dale Chihuly is a Club-level season ticket holder, at least. I see him at every game because I sit way down in front of him. Yes, I have better seats than Dale Chihuly!!!
