My Market

Posted by on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 3:30 PM

This is my favorite grocery store in Seattle:

It’s just the right size (not too big and not too small), and location (on the border between downtown and First Hill). It’s neither fancy or ghetto, and the people who shop here are as interesting as the people who work here.

A sushi joint, Kanpai, recently opened on the same block as my favorite grocery store.

plus, if Kanpai's really tilted that badly, they need to have a talk with their landlord

Mr. Mudede this post is a prime example of the kind of outrageous provocation that you are notorious for. Can you not keep twisted views locked in your fevered brain and away from decent people?

@4, the post's on slog. It has an incredibly low probability of finding it's way to the monitors of decent people.

I love M Street, have a friend who lives in the apartments above. It's the perfect neighborhood grocery store and wish more neighborhoods had them. I even hike up there from work every Wednesday for their $5 burgers and fries and the ribs and chicken make a great dinner on Fridays when I'm too tired to cook. The place rocks.

Are you sure it's in Fremont?

M Street is indeed great, I love it.

Ak Mak, dairy-free ice cream, they hand-pull shots at their coffee joint, style-aware young urban explorers everywhere, lots of organic foods. Love it!

The grocery store that used to be on that site had a much cooler sign. It had once been part of the long-gone Van de Kamp chain, and I think at one time the little neon windmill's arms used to turn.

Please note that I am not protesting development. I just love neon. And we don't have nearly enough of it downtown anymore.

There, see, Will's alluding to the way Fremont calls itself "the center of the universe", or at least some very tired old hippies do. That's pretty clever of you, Will. ROFLMAO. When'd you first hear that?

Do I WIN? LOLWUT? All your base are belong to us, WUT? NEEDS MORE COWBELL! SHOW ME THE MONEY! GIVE ME BACK MY SON!

I like how the criteria for your favorite market doesn't mention anything about the product or prices. It's never about what it's supposed to be about, is it?

You can't have any more cow bell until you eat your pudding.

And you can't have any pudding until you pay your fare.

So are these places gonna give you a discount for the free advertising? What would Kierkegaard say?

Shit. That's where I shop. My cover's blown.

Also, win @ 11.

@12: Prices are normal for the area, and selection is normal for the square footage. Veggies are not sketchy, but not farmer's market. It's a fucking grocery store.

No love for the crepe place right across the street? It's slow, but quite good. I love that they put in loads of dill.

I used to think it was a mini mart type place but dang, they've got EVERYTHING in there and its really convenient if you live closeby. Used to go there all the time when my friend lived across the street.

I liked the convenience of this store when I was a First Hiller, but their produce isn't fresh. Neither is the sushi at Kanpai. Oh well, I now live there not. I kinda miss it. But drive-by's and useless drunks peeing on the front steps wasn't my bag.
