Every Child Deserves A Mother and a Father

Posted by on Fri, Jul 17, 2009 at 11:01 AM

A Takoma Park man was convicted Wednesday of attempted murder for beating his estranged girlfriend at least 20 times with an 18-pound crucifix that he took off an apartment wall, Montgomery County prosecutors said Thursday.

The victim bought herself time during the attack by telling the man to stop long enough to turn on a Barbie DVD for their two girls to watch in another room so they wouldn't see the assault, authorities said.

Why are you smearing this good man?

He clearly had his daughter's best interests in mind and was doing the lord's work in making sure his wife honored him as she must.

The "Understand More About" diagram of links in the bottom left of the Post page is sort of surreal.

I'm wondering how the 18-pound crucifix was able to stay on the wall.

Seems like this could have also been a candidate for "There is No Morality Without Religion". Of all the weapons to use...yet in a way being bludgeoned with an representative icon from a religion that has caused much oppression, suppression, and in all too many cases death; is sadly symbolic.

I think it's time to make domestic violence a capital offense.

Like Barbie isn't harmful enough to little girls without this awful memory attached to it.

Jesus loves me! This I know, for the bible tells me so! Little one to Him belong; they are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me!

If this were a gay guy, there would be multiple posts that he didn't beat his partner because he was gay--this guy did not beat his partner because he (or at least she) was religious, and not even because he's a man in a society where men are not punished for this type of behavior-he did it because he's a sicko.

Let's not lose sight of that or of the fact that we need to change enforcement of laws to make violence actually punishable.

I'm impressed the mother even survived. 20 hits with something that's 18 pounds, plus the knife, plus getting shot by the cop trying to save her...that woman is going to be messed up for a while. I really feel for her and her poor kids.

@5 YES!
The most dangerous time for the victim in an abusive relationship is right after she leaves him.
