Crime Your Protection

The BBC reports:
Professional snipers have been brought in to guard a vulnerable colony of penguins in Australia.Dogs!The deployment follows the mysterious deaths of nine of the flightless birds over the last two weeks.
The mutilated bodies of the animals, known as fairy penguins, were found in a national park near Sydney harbour.
The main suspects are dogs and foxes. At 40cm tall, the world's smallest penguin species is clearly no match for such aggressive enemies.

Don't those dogs realize absolute nature is over, and they should be knocking over McDonalds restaurants or stealing pic-a-nic baskets?

Not the fairy penguins!
Dogs have been in Australia for a hell of a long time, a lot longer than white people. Foxes were brought by white people, and are either the number one or number two wildlife hazard in the country, killing millions of the small marsupials that haven't got a chance against them. They'll even kill platypuses. They're trying to keep them out of Tasmania, but some assholes are STILL trying to bring them over.

Huh interesting. So when african poachers continue killing off all the elephants and rhinoceros, It's fair for me to offer that up as proof that africans suck right?

The Fairy Penguin colony deserves all of the protection it gets. Not only are they threatened by feral dogs, but by arseholes on jet skies.
The dogs that fnarf claims were here before the fairy penguins are a) not in Sydney, and b) were likely not here before the Fairy Penguins as the dogs (dingoes) were introduced only about 40 000 years ago and the Fairy Penguin Colonies have been in Sydney Harbour a LOT longer.
The dogs that are likely to be attacking the Fairy Penguins are most likely pets who are not controlled by the yuppie scum who live in the harbour side neighbourhood in which the colony is located.
I, as opposed to fnarf, actually live in Sydney and have some knowledge of the problem.

Dingoes. And they're not to be sniffed at. Couple of them were taking a lap around Ayers Rock, and one said to the other, "Do you want to eat out tonight, or get take-away?" They made a movie out of it.
