Re: Re: Is Cantwell Reversing Herself on Co-ops?

Posted by on Thu, Jul 16, 2009 at 11:55 AM

Did Sen. Maria Cantwell, in a phone conversation with Washington State Labor Council President Rick Bender on Tuesday, say that she's off the co-op idea and will support a real public option?

Yesterday, Cantwell's office said co-ops didn't come up during the phone call—but added, via communications director John Diamond, that Cantwell "has been consistently advocating the public option all along." (Which, by the way, is an assertion not supported by the record.)

What does Rick Bender have to say about his conversation with Cantwell?

Bender's spokesperson, Cathy Cummings, now tells me: "It was a private conversation. But she is firmly in our camp, on board with the public option."

One would hope so.

Three quarters of the American citizens of this State want her to be.

Wow what a great senator.

She gives the inside scoop to the insiders but us peasants have to beg for scraps of information.

All HAIL THE MIGHTY SENATOR MARIA IMPERIUS CANTWELL....

Notice how she came around after that little two-day flap over the ferry stimulus funding? While that was Patty Murray's province, you have to wonder whether it was a not-so-subtle shot across Cantwell's bow: Play ball on the public option, or see what else we can jerk away from the state. (And if it was: Well played.)
