That's Disgusting! That's Perverted! That's Going On YouTube!

Posted by Dan Savage on Tue, Jul 14, 2009 at 9:11 AM

Americans For Truth About Homosexuality—Peter LaBarbera's rancid outfit—was so disgusted by the perverted goings on at the Folsom Street East that he made a video and posted it to YouTube.

Um... children aren't allowed to attend the Folsom Street East. But children do have access to YouTube. My goodness, doesn't Peter care about the chiiiiiiiildren? Shouldn't the chiiiiiiiildren be shielded from this kind of smut? Think of all the tiny minds—and future sex lives—that Peter is warping by posting this kind of perverted stuff to YouTube. It seems to me that the leather community should send Peter a thank-you note: they're never going to run out of guys who want to have their genitals shocked in public so long as Peter is out there scaring up new recruits.

But what I love most about the hard work Peter does "uncovering" disgusting gay perversions—uncovering them isn't that hard; these guys aren't exactly hiding, are they?—is the line that appears at the bottom of every one of his posts:

I sent this one to loads of friends this morning.

I saw the first frame before reading any text and thought it was going to be one of those Christian Passion re-enactments where they nail themselves to a cross, carry it around while people beat them and then hang on it all night. Unlike Gibson's movie (which I'm sue they show to children too) these re-enactments are totally furrealz bloody messes.

What a dork! Good point about children on Youtube.

At Folsom Fair (in SF) you see a million hipsters with cameras. Maybe we should start to forbid cameras this September.

I bet Pete's porn collection is impressive and I also bet he goes through shop rags like nobody's business.

But Schmucky, that's like totally different — S&M scenes are holy and good when Christians do it!

While I can understand why fundies get all wigged out by this stuff (ignorance causes great anxiety in many ways), I am mystified as to why a bunch of over-tattooed flabby guys find it erotic.

I suppose that's what makes horse races etc.......

Hm, I can't help but wonder how long Mr. LaBarbara wandered around that site in order to get the footage to make his little video. My guess is, hours and hours and hours and...

Clearly, he was so "disgusted" by the awful, horrible, decadence that surrounded him, he just couldn't take his eyes off it. Not for an instance. Nope. Had to watch every last second of it, just to - um, make sure he didn't miss any of the homasecshual depravities.

It's also amusing that he cites all those NY "penal (!) codes at the end, but chooses to leave out important qualifications such as in 250.01:"This section shall not apply to the breastfeeding of infants or to any person entertaining or performing in a play, exhibition, show or entertainment.." Also, I believe Mr. LaBarbara himself could potentially be in violation of the NYPC section 31.01, which prohibits video recording of a live or theatrical performance. And one wonders if Mr. LaBarbara solicited the consent of the "performer" prior to making the video tape, as that might also constitute a violation.

when oh when will someone bust this douche bag with big giant cock in his mouth?

Also, @ 6: I believe those are more commonly referred to as "cum rags". Or, more politely, "serviette de amour".

I wonder if the similarities to a Passion reenactment is really what offends them, only Corpus Christi allowed.

I don't really get the turn on of this stuff, either, but these fundies certainly go out of their way to gawk. like me, they're not the intended audience.

On a related note, in better news, I was down in SF recently and listening to the radio in my car. A DJ on STAR 101 (the "mom rock" station that plays the "best hits of the '80s, '90s, and today") was blabbering inanely and mentioned that her friends "Linda and Michelle" were getting married that weekend, by her friend who just got ordained as a minister. I thought that was really cool, that you could just drop gay marriage casually into a normal conversation.

I also saw a guy wearing a rainbow flag Giants shirt at the ballgame.

Does he really think only gay people do this? How about countering each of his posts on YouTube or wherever with one of straight people doing the same thing.

Peter LaBarbera (or "Porno Pete" as he's cheerfully known over at Pam's House Blend) is notorious for attending just about EVERY leather and BDSM event in the nation for "research." Repeatedly. Like, every year. He's done his "research" at IML weekend for the past 10 years or so, and never misses a Folsom Street fair. All to show his (hypothetical) followers just how awful, awful, awful that Gay Sex is. He's been to ten times as many leather events as I have.

Hell, by this point he practically qualifies as a circuit boi.

How does Mr. LaBarbera know that this man was gay? Did he stop and ask?

I went to the website, because I hadn't heard of these people before. I noticed in the corner it says that the content of americansfortruth.com is "not suitable for children"...the "truth" is not suitable for children?
The point is it brought back a (kind of) funny memory from my uber right-wing homeschooled fundy childhood --
I asked my father once why he thought gay people were so bad. He said: "You have to trust me. You don't *know* what they *do*. One day when you're old enough, I'll tell you about it." The funny part about this otherwise horrifying scenario is that I was 14 at the time, and assumed that gay men had anal sex while gay women performed cunnilingus or used dildos on one another. However, my father's intriguing statement made me wonder if there was something I had *missed*...some unheard of super secret sex act perhaps??? And could I try it with *my* boyfriend???

Uh-oh. Looks like comments are down again, Danny boy. Better tell Buffoony to post more meat porn, or get some more fat-hate or CM posts up pronto.

Somebody should compile a coffee table book of Peter LaBarbera's work and publish it in the erotica section. A video would also be good, but who would do the soundtrack?

that's cuz his excuse to indulge HIS "perversions" is to "uncover" them

Why is Peter LaBarbera trying to recruit children into the S&M lifestyle?
