A ton of interesting readings tonight.
Up at the Northgate branch of the Seattle Public Library, David B. Williams reads from Stories in Stone: Travels Through Urban Geology, which is about reading rocks as though they were books.
Mark Caro will be interviewed at the Pan Pacific Hotel tonight. He's the author of The Foie Gras Wars: How a 5,000-Year-Old Delicacy Inspired the World's Fiercest Food Fight. Wine and dinner will be served. It's unclear if foie gras will be served with dinner or not. If you're looking for something a little less controversial but still food-centric, you should head down to Elliott Bay Book Company. Cecelia Hae-Jin Lee, who is the author of Quick & Easy Korean Cooking, will teach you how to make Korean food, which is often underrated.
Third Place Books hosts Eric Barnes. Shimmer is a thriller about a billion-dollar Ponzi scheme that affects the world's wealthiest people. It's fiction, of course. Nobody would fall for that.
Yesterday, Pilot Books announced on their blog that they're hosting two poets in an impromptu reading tonight at 7 pm. Jared White and Farrah Field will be reading their poetry. If you're feeling adventurous, you should stop by. I have not read their poetry, but they are interesting bloggers to be sure.
And Nalo Hopkinson, who is an awesome and prolific author, reads from The New Moon's Arms at University Book Store. It's about race, gender, and the Caribbean. This is the reading of the night.
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
