I Have Neglected My Nerd Casting News Today

e42e/1247533271-tinythor.jpgOver the weekend, Ryan Reynolds beat Justin Timberlake for the role of Green Lantern in the upcoming movie. I am not entirely sure if this is bad news or good news. You'll have to discuss it amongst yourselves.

Further: Natalie Portman has been cast as love interest Jane Foster in Kenneth Branagh's upcoming Thor movie. I know that this is good news, and it's also the first bit of casting news that makes me want to see the Thor movie.

Personally, I think this will work out just fine for the movie. Reynolds seems to be a decent enough actor, though his horrible choice in movies to star in speaks against him.

@1: I agree completely. However, some people believe the least-hot actor won.

I just hope Ryan Reynolds can learn to play a role other than Ryan Reynolds.

Who on earth thinks Justin Timberlake is hotter than Ryan Reynolds? They have seen him shirtless, right?

Personally, I would love to see a major animation company (Pixar!) do a Green Lantern movie. A live action just seems so limited, unless the film has a 200 million dollar budget. Thor might work since his major powers a super-strength and the hammer. Ok, nerd off...

Kenneth Branagh making a superhero movie sounds excellent. Almost as excellent as Justin Timberlake as a superhero.

Actually, wait: Justin Timberlake should just do a superhero music video, preferably with Andy Samberg. That would rule.

I could potentially see Ryan Reynolds playing the part, but it would have to be perfectly written. If not it really does just come off as every other character his played.

Well, I have hated Reynolds since "Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place," but Timberlake would've sucked too.

This movie will be bad. Nobody wins.

I believe there's a GL animated feature up for release soon. It will go back to when Sinestro was still part of the GL corps and Hal was still a rookie under his wing.

They made the right choice. I like JT, but I would have seen him in every scene, not the Green Lantern. I think Ryan Reynolds can pull it off.

Early morning time, the mist is dim. Curved river bank, willow obviously elegant like smoke. Far does not see the mountain, nearly does not see the ship, only a [spam link removed] little selects the lights, embellishes in the faintly recognizable mist. The young young schoolchild, sings in this mist at sunset; In a hurry the pedestrian, the moist hair clothing which fills by the mist. Most beautiful, when is in the fog the park, pavilion Taiwan pavilion, porch bridge park, fuzzy, partly visible. Let the human think that imitates, if places oneself in unreal, is considering, is in the world, plays in the heavenly palace?

I think Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica) would have been a better choice. I love Ryan Reynolds, but he's only been in comedies or campy roles (i.e. Deadpool). I just think GL is going to come off all cheesy now.

@11: that has to be the most poetic spam I've ever read. Also, @2, finding out you agree with me made my night. I never expect anyone to actually read my comments, let alone agree with them.

@13: I swear to God: I read all your comments. Not just the ab-centric ones. You're one of the good ones.

Welllllll - Green Lantern might be okay, but it'll never live up to this fan-made trailer, though. & whereas one cold possibly geeked about Natalie Portman in Thor (eek, I first thought she was gonna be Lady Sif!), it's not a guarantee of quality (Queen Amadala, anyone)? Nor is Kenneth "Frankenstein" Brannagh, much as I used to love him.

I'd like them to make the Green Lantern gay, or hell any superhero gay.

Jack Black was at one time attached to the Green Lantern movie, so I think we all dodged a bullet.

Natalie Portman? Really? I've only ever liked her in two movies, Leon and V. The rest of her performances that I've seen make me cringe...

@19 beautiful girls....

i thought timberlake did a fine job of acting in what i've seen (alpha dog, ?), and i've not been impressed by reynolds. i kind of agree, though, that i have a tendency to see these people when they are no screen and not their characters; either will have to actually act this role. perhaps reynolds tested better.

Why didn't they go the John Stewart route? I really hope they don't introduce him in the film as a sidekick or magical negro.

So which Green Lantern? Guy Gardner? Hal Jordan? John Stewart?

Also, I thought Seth Rogan was involved. That's why he lost all the weight.

I thought Seth Rogen was writing/starring in it. Are there two different movies?

The dissapointing aspect of this news is that Reynolds will likely not be getting a Deadpool movie, because the public isn't smart enough to distinguish between the same actor playing two superheroes.
