Today The Stranger Suggests

Burning Beast

Carnivores unite! It's the second-annual world's greatest feast in a field, featuring a dozen of Seattle's best chefs cooking whole beasts over hot coals, all day long. The setting (and the beneficiary of this fundraiser): the ridiculously beautiful, endlessly bucolic Smoke Farm (a nonprofit haven for artists, philosophers, and other oddballs an hour north of the city). Among the chefs: organizer Tamara Murphy (Brasa, Elliott Bay Cafe), Matt Dillon (Sitka and Spruce, the Corson Building), Dustin Ronspies (Art of the Table), and Jonathan Sundstrom (Lark). New this year: venison. Continuing from 2008: a river to swim in. (Smoke Farm, Arlington, www.smokefarm.org. 6 pm–midnight, $75, all ages.)

Drooling over a dead animal on spit isn't my thing, but haven't the tickets for this event been sold out for days? The website says so.

Can we also slaughter the animals with our own hands and drink their blood? That'd really show we respect them and aren't out to humiliate them.

Super lame. Pay $75 to drive your Hummer H2 an hour into the exurbs to eat flesh slices off a whole cow. America at its absolute worst.

Assholes unite! Come drive your gas-guzzler out to the woods to slaughter animals and eat only the nice pieces of them. Stuff your already overweight body with carcass and laugh your ass off at your impending doom.

push 'em up, haters, push 'em up!

broke whiners keep missing out. you think this event wasn't full of food industry peeps who worked hard for that $75?

this was a better use of $75 than a month of drinking at the poggie tavern. oh yeah, i carpooled up there in a rental car because i don't drive. keep on hatin' in the free world.

Awesome. Amazing. Delicious.

I even drove my SUV, met BJC by the pig on a spit, and did a lot of other things. My favorite was the goat. Or the lamb. Or everything.

alternately... /bitch, whine, repeat.

Some serious jealousy going on here. What, was someone actually having fun without consulting your thoughts first? Horrors!

P.S. The goat was awesome.

@10,

Which lamb? Which goat? You did notice there were two of each?

By the way, where the fuck was the venison?

I preferred the goat booth in the middle of the field, with the tortilla & red sauce, and the lamb with couscous.

I think I am still full...

I wish we were allowed to kill the animals ourselves. Once agaiin Lizzie talks out of her ass. I didn't drive my Hummer, I drove my 68 Plymouth. Made before catalytic converters so I fill it with regulad gas.
