Downtown Newsstand Reopens Next Week

Posted by on Fri, Jul 10, 2009 at 1:32 PM

Seattle's last newsstand is set to reopen next week, just in time for the collapse of the newspaper industry.

I just got this email from Frank Turco Memorial Newsstand owner Ben Gant: 9a49/1247256295-newststand.png

We pulled Old Blue out yesterday. The new one will be installed Saturday, and the glass will be in on monday. I should have papers and drinks for sale Tuesday.

Gant's newsstand is on 3rd and Pike. Stop by next week and pick up a paper or a copy of the constitution (only $5!).

Not enough pedestrians in Seattle to support more than one newsstand, I guess.

Why on earth would I buy a newspaper? Magazines, drinks, candy bars, cigarrettes, etc sure. Newspapers I just don't get. I don't want 3/4ths of the content, the news is already stale, and the perspective is shitty. I'll just read all the good stuff on the internet on my phone, thanks.

NYYYYAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

JONAH.

That thing is not a newsstand. I have explained this to you before. It is a kiosk.

THERE IS A NEWSSTAND IN THE PIKE PLACE MARKET AT 1ST AND PIKE. IT IS CALLED "FIRST AND PIKE NEWS". IT IS AN ACTUAL OPERATING AMAZING NEWSSTAND.

Please stop promoting this douchebag, and get your fucking terminology straight, you jackass.

Isn't this the guy that owned this for several years but kept it shuttered until the City stated they wanted to seize it, and then he defiantly opened a half-assed news stand to spite them?

Fuck this guy and his plastic kiosk.

Oh, and while anon comments typically aren't worth their drive space in ASCII, the comment above has it right: There are news stands all around town. Bulldog News and the aforementioned 1st/Pike news stand are two quick examples.

This guy's reading from the same book of pointless rabble rousing as the dude who tried to shut down the Lake Union fireworks. Sell the property while you still can and move on, windbag.
