Sarah Palin is the thing we feared most: a Republican that knows how to use the internet!

Alexander Golz's recent article, translated in Spiegel-Online, says the key to U.S.-Russian relations is the oil price. If it's around $40/barrel, all is friendly. If it's around $60/barrel, Russia starts to make demands. Right now it's around $60/barrel but Russia hasn't yet decided what demands to make. Also: Russia's arms reduction tactic is to claim it has more arms than it does so that it gets credit for reducing to its actual stockpile without destroying a weapon.

The Uighur-Han ethnic conflict in China reminds me how much I used to wish the Muppet Show hadn't been laughtracked. What a joykiller.

1. "redux" means return to...are you saying Obama is bringing back the cold war?

Eschew obsfucation !

2. Backyard cottages: with only 50 allowed per year, they're not being legalized, they're still illegal, mainly. And the requirement an owner live on site half the year either means city inspectors snooping around -- or as is more likely, many people will just lie, giving an advantage to the dishonest.

The fifty a year limit is to protect all those developers who keep building mega-structures. Sucks. And there is always a chance for corruption in any involvement of strictures and bans. But it also means families that need more space can create it.

This morning Palin is citing media attention to her children as the reason for the resignation.
Attention has been merciless and cruel, and mostly not pertinent to any public issue.
Slog feels that anything goes when the target is someone who disagrees with it and whose views it find unsupportable but that is a double-edged sword.
Considering the attention Dan has shown to Palin's children one wonders what will happen when America's most provocative homosexual sex columnist/spokesmodel/parent's child runs into the difficulties all teenagers inevitably experience.
It will be unfortunate if DJ pays a price for Dan's snark.

Let me just put in another pitch for regular readers to try selecting "unregistered off." For fun I switch the unregistereds back on now and again just to assess the ripeness of the crap they sling.

@8 is a perfect example this morning. Smarmy lying uncaring pretender. "Unregistered OFF" with you, heartless, know-nothing sir or madam preacher's parrot!

Seeing Sharpton's vulture act swooping in on the Jackson Family Saga is just so perfect. Has there ever been a more full-of-shit colostomy bag? The Jacksons presumably want a delay so they can rummage through his stuff and see if there are any more bags of cash; they are thoroughly despicable people. But then, I don't expect to see any non-despicable people in connection with MJ again.

PC, I think he knows exactly what "redux" means, and used it correctly.

Gus, yeah, you hit that nail on the head.

@8: Suck it, douchebag.

@8 I think merciless and cruel is an appropriate response to a character right out of Sinclair Lewis. But then, so is Dan, although he's a more lovable one.

@6 You should concentrate on the weak kneed and backward right wingers that are taking the Republican Party down the toilet. You can hope your bullshit and lies about Obama weakens him, but it won't. And as for Palin's children, it's about her choices as a parent that's at issue. She is another holier than thou, we know how everyone else should be living right winger. She is the one that chose the public forum and scrutiny that public office requires in a democracy. And she is the one who has insisted that no birth control is the best birth control, whatever the cost.

M-I-L cottages are a good start, but why only 50? Oh, and why isn't anyone looking at this and realizing that this is likely to be cover for some concessions to townhome developers?

Slog's panties are wadding early this morning...

Obama's performance is office is what is weakening him. Deal with it.

Palin is not the only holier than thou "we know how everyone else should be living" public figure. She is not the only parent that chose the public forum. And she is not the only one who has insisted on telling America how to practice birth control (anal sex, anyone?).

It's all about glass houses.

Dan has set the bar very low for acceptable treatment of a public figure's children.

Too bad DJ is who will pay the piper.

@17,

DJ's fathers aren't a couple of white trash idiots. He will be fine, and you won't get your precious schadenfreude.

DJ's fathers don't care enough about his well-being and stability to sacrifice their own impulses.

DJ will eventually learn that daddy and daddy weren't special enough to each-other.

DJ will eventually learn that strangers were invited into his home and his dads' hotel rooms for the sexual gratification that they could not find in each other as husbands.

What a signifier of DTMAA.

Dump the mother fucker already if he is not enough for you.

LOL at you making up DTMFA and not being able to DTMF that is not enough for you.

No excuses are enough for you to explain away how the sexual expert cannot expertly be in love and sexually gratified.
