Seattle police are investigating a drive-by shooting in the Central District after, police say, shots were fired outside of the Garfield Community Center at 23rd and Cherry earlier this evening.
According to SPD spokesman Mark Jamieson, a man and a "juvenile female" were shot on the steps of the community center just before 7:00 p.m. by a gunman in a dark-colored SUV, which was last seen headed westbound on Cherry. Jamieson says the two victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Harborview for treatment.
The block around Garfield High School has been the site of several high-profile shootings in the last year. Former Franklin High School basketball player Donnie Cheatham was blinded in a shooting in December and 15-year-old Quincy Coleman was shot and killed near the school on Halloween.
