Religion So How's Your Creepy Christian Pedo-dar?

Yesterday I tested your creepy Christian pedo-dar. I asked Sloggers if this teacher—arrested for soliciting one of his 12-year-old students for sex—solicited a male student or a female student.
The results of the vote...
And a majority of Sloggers got it right: It's a girl...
A First Baptist Church School teacher is accused of soliciting a 12-year-old student for sex. Charleston County Sheriff's investigators charged Charles "DJ" Fishburne Rhodes III of Charleston with criminal solicitation of a minor.An affidavit says the victim told investigators that Rhodes began text messaging her on her cell phone after school let out for the summer. The two talked through texts for about two to three weeks when Rhodes wrote and asked her to "come over." One text asked her to perform oral sex on him, the affidavit says.
Rhodes waived his rights and admitted in a statement that he engaged in the sexual conversation with the student, the affidavit says.
So it turns out that Sloggers' creepy Christian pedo-dar is pretty accurate. Congrats!

A youth volunteer at a Knox County church allegedly kept photos of children engaged in sexual activities and is accused of sexual acts with a boy younger than 13, according to court records.
Randall Thomas Hollifield, 45, of Powell was taken into custody Tuesday night after deputies executed a search warrant at his house on Little Joe Road, said Knox County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Martha Dooley.

It wasn't my pedo-dar. It was my Dan-dar. I could tell that the quote "homosexuals preying on teenage boys" got your dander up, and you weren't about to make a post the confirmed that bias. My gut is that the creepy pedos are about 50% lil' girl lovin' and 50% lil' boy lovin'. Which seems a little too gay now that I think about it, considering homosexuality in the general population is about (what are the best numbers on this these days?) 10% of the general population. On third thought, 50% gay for the conservative christian politician, catholic priet, and youth pastor population seem about right.

My husband pointed out that in that picture the guy had "stare-y" eyes. No matter where you stand in the room the guy was looking at you in a creepy manner.

I based my vote on my assumption that Dan was going out of his way to disprove Fundie preachers comments about gays being pederasts. It would have been too "obvious" if that creep had molestered boys.

You are right about the high number of incidents involving male-on-male abuse.

It isn't so much that we have accurate pedo-dar. Its that some of us understand the odds.
If you accept that roughly 10% of men are attracted to other men, then it only stands to reason that roughly 10% of male pedos would be attracted to boys. I'm sure that other factors come in to play, and it isn't a direct correlation, and so on, but the general principle can't be too far off.
Absent any other info, simple statistics would indicate the pedo was most likely perving on little girls.

My colleagues and I joke that to protect kids, instead of trying to criminalize homosexuality, ban step-fathers or mother's boyfriends.

This was @18 unregistered, but I'm reposting it because this is so right on. I'm a teacher and it's amazing to me how many kids are abused by boyfriend/stepdad and how many moms don't kick the abusers sorry ass out of their house.
