Palin to Step Down as Governor

Posted by Lindy West on Fri, Jul 3, 2009 at 1:17 PM

ad7d/1246652198-palin.jpgVia MSNBC:

WASILLA, Alaska - Sarah Palin announced Friday she plans to resign as governor of Alaska in a few weeks, saying she will try to "affect positive change" from outside government.

She is handing the reins over to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who will be sworn in on July 25. Parnell and most of Palin's cabinet were present at the announcement.

"We know we can affect positive change outside government at this moment in time on another scale and actually make a difference," she said, adding that politics had become a "superficial, wasteful bloodsport."

Palin plans to leave behind the "superficial, wasteful bloodsport" of politics for more wholesome activities such as, say, AERIAL WOLF MURDER.

Could be a scandal so super-massive that the implosion will cause a wingularity from which none of us will escape.

Quitter! She's as unstable as a few of the other Republican Governors. And did she just slander queers?!?

I smell a major ethics violation involving Palin in the not-too-distant future.

How long 'til she lands on FOX News?

Somehow, it’s Obama’s fault.

Okay.... so she was elected to a specific term, and is resigning for no reason, one year before it was supposed to end? Is this just more proof of the implosion of the party, or does it mean she's doing this to start in on some SERIOUS and longterm fundraising for 2012? Yikes.

This is a very odd time to resign and very sudden news. Clearly she knows something we do not. I see a Fox News position in her immediate future.

I tried to watch the news conference but it was so painful I had to close my eyes to get through it. That basketball metaphor she used nearly made me pass out.

I'd suggest she and her minions spend some of their newfound free time studying the difference between "affect" and "effect."

Seriously, if this intellectual flyweight is trying to line up a run for national office, she'll get laughed off the stage.

@15 Um. First of all, since when does not knowing what words mean bar you from public office?

Secondly, affect isn't used incorrectly here! She's leaving political office to act on all the positive change that's going on out there. Now, admittedly that's a bold declaration of Ms. Palin's hatred for positive change, but it's not grammatically *wrong*.

And leaving all that aside, I'm guessing that the quote is from a speech, not an article -- which mean that this is a TRANSCRIBER'S error, not hers! Affect and effect sound identical when you speak them out loud.

So, um. If you're going to bag on Palin mere, you oughta focus on something real, instead of grammar-spazzing all over the floor.

I have to think that she's getting out in front of a scandal as well. It seems too soon to leave for a presidential bid--wouldn't she stay in office for that anyway?

I'm hoping that this is related to some huge super secret scandal that she's trying to keep hush hush. However, if my worst fears are true, its because she's hoping to run for president in 2012 and needs lots of time to be properly groomed by the Republican party.

This is a "slow news day" so the timing is strange, but I can't imagine any kind of new scandal. I think she will test the waters to see if she really has support for a 2012 run - maybe even a third party (I would LOVE that). Here's hoping she continues to show her true colors.

Fire Aim Ready 42
She's leaving for a career in Hollywood:

"It Came From Wasilla" (2010). Director: Woody Allen.

In this docu-drama, director Allen casts Sarah Palin as herself, as he fictionalizes her rise from backwoods poverty in Wasilla -- the methamphetamine capital of Alaska -- to the state capitol in Juneau, and her subsequent return to complete obscurity. Tom Hanks stars as her beleaguered, henpecked husband Todd. Sean Penn plays her son Trig as an adult in a bizarre flash-forward scene.

Fun ensues as Palin struggles to maintain some semblance of civility -- even by Alaskan standards -- in a ramshackle house full of her daughters, their illegitimate children, and the children's fathers: Bristol's son Tripp, fathered by Levi Johnston (played by Jonas brother Kevin) and Willow's daughter Slipp, fathered by Alex Rodriguez (hilariously played by Carlos Mencia).

Not recommended.

Does she really think this will free up her time for a run at the GOP nomination in 2012? All she'll be doing is zapping around the country (on whose tab?) reminding everyone why she lost in 2008.

yea making fun of me is so funny, so funny i forgot to laugh. I'm tired of getting dogged on by you faggots all the time whenever i respond to anything or any thread. If you wanna talk like that to me why don't you come here and say it to me face so i can answer your insults with a swift fist to the nose. yea you have a lot to say from hundreds of miles away but i bet if my fists were in reach of your face you would be like a tv on mute with no volume button So do yourself a favor and keep your mouth shut unless you want to die. Next time you think about saying something like that to me I want you to remember one thing. I know the guy that created google maps and I can locate you in the time it took me to type this.Don't want anymore problems....didn't think so faggots. You have any idea what gorilla warfare is? I do, I was in the US Marine Core and I perfected it. I'm fully capable of using it on you motherfuckers. Do you know the dander your in if I find you? I am 100$ serious. Bunch of god damn newfaf loser here and I will not have it. At least I've had sex, had girlfriends, and gotten laid, and blowjobbed unlike you virgin pieces of unpatriotic SHIT.

Here you go, Massive Attack: I think if her career wasn't over before, it is now. People who walk away from their elected jobs in the middle of their terms don't get nominated for President. I do think she has tremendous value as a traveling sideshow freak, demonstrating to all far and wide how disastrously out of control the Republican Party is. From this moment forward, every time she opens her mouth on TV, a million more Republican voters defect.

@48, come and get me, babe. I'm right there on Google Earth; I'm sure your buddy can tell you how to find me. I'm waiting for you. I'll even let you take the first shot for free.
