Re: Palin to Step Down as Governor

Posted by Eli Sanders on Fri, Jul 3, 2009 at 3:58 PM

I know she's resigning, but... What the fuck did she just say for seven minutes? Love the bird sounds, though.

I think she said she is going to be making more down syndrome babies to solve the world's problems. My guess is she has a million dollar offer to be a lobbyist for oil and gas companies.

I think she's saying she going to prove her street cred by becoming a community organizer on the mean streets of Wasillas' notorious south side, or more probably she's going to go pal around with terrorist sympathizers Bill O'reilly and Rupert Murdoch.

Other than that, I suspect blackmail.

I think I understand her logic -- she's not running for re-election, so that makes her a lame duck governor, so that means she can just quit now and *appear* to not engage in "politics as usual", which is when lame duck leaders continue to fulfill their responsibility for their full term -- oops, I mean, waste money and stuff.

God she's stupid.

All I can think of while I listen to this is the hag high school teacher from "Donnie Darko":

Either that or the folksy mayor from "Buffy" who wanted to devour the graduating class during his own unendurable speech.

I don't blame her at all. The leftist media has savagely excoriated her ever since she came on the scene, as have liberals in general:

She is a strong, intelligent, and articulate pro-life feminist woman who threatens the leftist feminazi establishment.

I predict this will make her stronger than ever. She will run for president in '12, and send our foreign born "president" packing. And she will save American liberty.

1. No need to be in office to run for president: Edwards, Romney, etc.
2. Her last year + recession = taking money from feds or cutting budget - governing is hard to do.
3. $2 million book deal + lecture circuit, she has to hit the limelight NOW to get her pile of $5-9 million in the next two or three years. She's marketable to the base, baby.
4. national limelight is hers, why give it up?

She's WAY ABOVE being governor now.

Look for that book to try to establish some faux gravitas, btw, like "Lessons of Main STreet in a Dangerous World" -- one thing you learn in Alaska is their ARE wolves nad predators. So with arab terrorists you have to be locked and loaded blah blah blah..."

She has a great shot at top of the ticket in 2012 -- why fuck around cutting budgets in a place like Juneau? It also rains a hell of a lot there and they really don't appreciate the whole Neiman MArcus wardrobe, either.

That is one helluva a precedent to set for people you want to voter for you in a future election. True Leaders do not cut and run. Public service means nothing to this crazy woman. The text of the speech is rambling madness.

I will tell you what politics as usual is: Not fulfilling your public duty to serve out a term in high office that you were elected to.

No soup for you, Next !

Lord Basil,

Am I taking crazy pills? I don't see a conservative intellectual. I see an emotionally compulsive woman. I mean I really want to give people credit where credit is due.

I SEE MORE SENSE OUT OF CHENEY!

Cheney, articulates himself with sources, facts and figures.
Cheney, at least acknowledges he is a self centered conservative
Cheney, can debate

Don't get me wrong, I see a world I don't want to be a part of with respect to Cheney Rove people, but I like SEE a world, a vission.

I like to think I can see someones logic and agree to disagree, but with Palin ... I see empty, vapid vitrol. Seriously, I think someone blackmailed her badly and now she is in a panic.

But remember she has five children. The vote for was four yeahs and a hell yeah. This includes Trig 14 month old with Downs Syndrome or perhaps her husband. Maybe she was trying to be cute, that's fine too ... but as far as I could tell that was the only thing that made sense that wasn't a mindless buzz word.

I mean seriously WTF!

OH LORD....Basil

Are you referring to the same liberal media that rolled over for George W. Bush?

It was clear from the moment Palin started talking after she was picked by McCain as a running mate that the senator was suffering from a bad case of buyer's remorse. And y'know what? He was right to regret it because the country voted and he lost. Mrs. Palin was, and is still, unacceptable to moderate, non-evangelical republicans. She is unelectable on a national ticket.

It didn't take Alaskan republicans long to realize that she is a intellectual lightweight and clearly not equipped for the job. No one is more elated today than the GOP of Alaska.

"New political environment?" So she doesn't think she can get anything done because of the Democratic majority in Washington, and so she... Resigns? Is that the only way that this speech makes sense? Am I using too many question marks?

Sorry, one more: How exactly are our federal dollars being spent on superficial, wasteful political blood sport, and not the troops? And how is her resignation going to help change that? Was she the one wasting it?

I know, it's like trying to parse the language of a four-year-old. The only difference is that the four-year-old might have something to say.

You must be so fucking stupid to think something like that... Please promise me you'll try to start thinking a little, will you? Do some kind of thinking exercises -- start slow!! -- and work your way up to at least a halfway safe level of intelligence, for our sake as well as your own. The woman can give a good speech when she prepares and puts her mind to it, and THAT was NOT a good speech. It seemed more "thrown together at the last minute" rather than being a calculated political move. I'm guessing that something is afoot.

Just read elsewhere that she intends to get out of politics entirely, which is really sad. She has great comedic value, and beating her in an election is like shooting fish in a barrel. Everyone, please write to her office and send your encouraging words--she must run in the 2012 republican primaries!

Again, you don't make this kind of announcement on a Friday afternoon preceding a holiday if this is a big leap forward for your political career. You wait until 7am on a Monday morning to get a big splash, coast-to-coast. The timing betrays a position of evasion and weakness, not a bold stroke of political saavy.

Mark my words- the other shoe is gonna drop, most likely over the weekend, and it's bigger than Bristol getting knocked up again.

Please, please, please be an FBI wiretap. Sarah or Todd in a perp walk would be the final nail in the GOP coffin.

"And we can all learn from our selfless, selfless troops. They are bold and they don't give up, and they take a stand and they know that life is short so they choose not to waste time. They choose to be productive and deserve something greater than self, and to build UP their families. and their states, and our great country. These troops and their important missions now; there is where truly the worthy causes are in this world, and that's where our public resources should be, our public priority. With time and resources spent on that, not on this superficial, wasteful, political blood sport. So may we all learn from them."

It's definitely either @16 or @41's, for my money. But I lean towards @16. The timing is weird, but whether she announced it just before a holiday weekend or the following Monday, she won't be able to tiptoe out of office; remember the whole transfer of power later this month.

And isn't it up to her what she does as a lame duck? She wouldn't be compelled beyond her will to travel around wasting Alaskan taxpayer money. What a dipshit.

So she calls politics a "superficial, wasteful bloodsport." There you have it youth of America, our whole system is a hopeless waste of time and it's unwise to get involved.

She claims in this very public speech that there have been too many mean people in the media(?) making fun of Trig. Who??? I have heard lots of criticism and mockery thrown her way and her family's way, but nothing I can recall about Trig.

"The world needs more Trigs, not fewer." Huh? Where the hell did this come from??

As usual she goes off on a long-winded tangent talking about how great the troops are. Yeah yeah yeah, thank you for constantly reminding us, as if we're all in elementary school , how super the troops are. What the hell does it have to do with her resigning??

She claims that she is being clear about how she isn't going to be engaged with politics as usual. Stop beating around the bush and tell us what politics you are going to be engaged in then.

Oh, here's a real gem I just got to the part where she refers to her coming to national stage in Aug 08 as "the real climate change." WHAT _ A _ BITCH

"Top-down big government takeover"-- a takeover?! excuse me?? Oh, she means the Obama administration. Hey Obama voters, you voted for a "government takeover"!! By the way, aren't ALL governments "top-down?" How else can they govern for chrissakes? What a BITCH. Good riddens for now Ms Palin

Well, I have been reading an AWESOME Alaskan Blog called The Mudflats. They did EXCELLENT reporting the moment McSame tapped that Gash for his running-mate.
She has a LOT of gates behind her...Troopergate, babygate, AIP Gate, ethics gates, Affair Gate and MY particular favorite...House Gate.
Seems that when she was Mayor of Wasilla and had a sports arena built, lots of things in her house are also present in the family home. You know the house Todd and a few of his "contractor buddies" built. Oh yeah, there was Permit gate too. We still don't know the identity of Todd's resourceful and incredibly skilled "buddies". No records of building permits naming the contractor exist, due to a paper The Beast from Wasilla signed.

So I watched the whole thing and here is what I got out of it:

I'm Sarah Palin! Obama got elected and his big government, big spending thing is a huge problem (our national priorities are all out of wack!). I think I can help fix this better in some non-government position of an undisclosed nature. Therefore, I'm resigning as Governor (because I want to fight for Alaska on a NATIONAL scale not just a state scale). Don't worry, my Lt. Gov. will do a great job (I'm doing what's BEST for Alaska).

I'm not a Sarah Palin fan at all (I disagree with policies and find listening to her "speak" to be very painful). But it seems like some SLOG commenters who feel the same way don't really LISTEN to her. They just go "Sarah Palin? Basketball analogy? WTF IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?!" She's not really THAT incoherent. Just very very ineloquent. And fairly inarticulate. But not incoherent (not completely anyway). Stop willfully misunderstanding her just because she's....Sarah Palin. Stupidity hurts me.

Oh and if my summary seems a little short it's because the rest of the speech was a bunch of circular rambling bullshit.
