Only in America... specifically in Clackamas County, Oregon. And he *still* thinks he did nothing wrong.

I blame police stations everywhere for not having easy to remember numbers like 9-1-1.

Ten dollars for a McDonald's burger is robbery.

yeah, i think 911 is now synonymous with "calling the police" in alot of communities and I don't really blame the guy for the confusion.

Oh, come on, Andy Squirrel....how about after the guy has been told...what, 3, 4 times to stop calling? You honestly think a discrepancy at a fast-food restaurant justifies a 911 call? And that a grown man shouldn't know better?

Anybody ever call 911 for a real emergency? I was walking down the street (broad daylight) and came upon a fight with weapons about to start between two groups of people. I walked away from the fight and called from around the corner. I told the dispatcher there was going to be a fight - she asked "Are they fighting right now?" I said I had walked around the corner and wasn't going to go back and look. She just kept repeating "Are they fighting right now?" and I kept telling her that I wasn't going to near enough to find out. Eventually she called me belligerent and told me I was preventing her from doing her job...I told her to just send the fucking cops over and asked to speak to her supervisor. Then she hung up on me. The cops did come...but one of the armed groups had already dispersed. The dispatcher wasted several minutes arguing with me, which prevented arrests from being made.

@5 I had a similar experience driving by what looked like a couple having a very heated argument in the middle of the street. I almost ran them over and the dude appeared to be grabbing the girl and yelling. I called 911 out of precaution, just to have a cop make sure everything was OK. The dispatcher freaked out on me because I couldn't give a detailed description of both individuals. Then she got mad when I told her I couldn't even confirm that there was any sort of violence.

ALSO: When my car was stolen I figured since it wasn't an emergency, I would call the police department directly. They literally told me to hang up and call 911....WTF?!

From the website;

If the crime happened a while ago and there is no direct danger to you or another person, please call the police
non-emergency line at: (206) 625-5011.

#3 yeah, it seems a bit confusing as to when exactly one should use 911 in terms of preventative measures to potentially violent situations, but come on, the guy got short changed at mcdonalds for crying out loud. this man should be placed in special care, and he sure as hell shouldn't be allowed to drive a car. for fucks sake...

@6 - "...the dude appeared to be grabbing the girl and yelling"... so I don't get it. He 'appeared to be grabbing the girl' or he *was* grabbing the girl. 'Cause that's violent.

Shit, I'd side on caution and tell the dispatcher I saw him grabbing the girl - period. You know *that's* going to jump the call up the queue... .

He didn't even get robbed of his burgers, they just asked him to pull forward so they could serve someone else while his food was being cooked. I hope he got arrested for abusing 911.

It was a long time ago but I've tried to call police non-emergency numbers several times and either was asked to call 911 instead (for what was patently NOT a "life threatening injury") or couldn't find a non-emergency number listed anywhere.
