Good Art Represents Real Life

Posted by on Thu, Jul 2, 2009 at 1:26 PM

frazetta_cornered.jpgAs everyone knows, Frank Frazetta is the greatest artist in the history of the world. Consider his painting to the left, "Cornered." It has it all: A half-naked buff man, an even-more-than-half-naked woman bent in such a way that her caboose is hanging out, and a motherfucking dinosaur. I'd like to see Jackson Pollock beat that.

3303/1246551467-shaner_2_cornered.jpgSlog tipper Lara informs us that Meat Cards (the only company in the world that prints business cards on beef jerky) had a Frank Frazetta-themed contest to give away their first few business cards ("you will be one of about twenty people in the WHOLE WORLD with your own business cards made of meat and lasers.")

All you had to do was re-enact a Frazetta painting in real life, with no Photoshopping allowed, and the judges determined a winner. The winner earned free Meat Cards. One of the winners, who reproduced "Cornered," is at the right. There are many other photos, some featuring fine women with their cabooses hanging out, at the Meat Card site, and you should check it out.

Well, even if nothing else interfered with the illusion, the utility lines in the upper left kind of step on the prehistoric ambience.

"No Photoshop allowed" kind of suggests a little extra attention to composition, but they ARE winners. Fun stuff.

You're welcome.

Also, I don't think I've wanted to fuck a woman more in my life.

And for the record, I prefer women already if that was unclear.

Re:2

I looked at the other entries. I guess post-comet-impact landscapes are a little hard to find.

They all look like SLOG bloggers/commenters (as I choose to imagine them). Wonderful and funny pics. I've been a fan of FF for well over forty years. Best wishes.

Reverse Polarity 11
When I was a closeted teenager, I lived for Frank Frzetta art. It was the closest thing to gay porn in my world at the time (pre-internet age).

So I have to say I'm hugely disappointed by the reenactments. There isn't a single buff, drool-worthy guy in any of the photos sent in. *sigh*

@11: Ditto the boner-in-Waldenbooks teenagerhood, but I also have a soft spot for pale, concave-chested nerds with chin fuzz. So the pix kinda worked for me.

Is it just me, or does the nice lady in the pink panties kinda resemble Dr. Girlfriend?

Why isn't this a chosen piece for my Frazetta calendar I have been using for the last 6 months? The "monster" is too goofy! And her booty is THICK btw.

Boner in Waldenbooks!! #15 and #11, you've just summed up my teen years! Only I'm straight and it was that giant chick with a dude reclining in her cleavage for me, remember that one?

Frazetta has an interesting story, which you can get from Netflix, and Scarecrow probably has it too.

I never understood the fascination with dinosaurs though. They bored me since a young age. Dragons and fantasy creatures I couldn't get enough of, but dinosaurs are lame.

It's funny how, even at that age, when it was all about my boner (it still is), I looked down on Boris Vallejo. All he ever painted was shiny boobies, both male and female. Frazetta's paintings at least had some story to go with the boobies and that made them more interesting to me.

One of the highlights of the Frazetta movie. Is Bo Derek saying how much she loves and envies the asses on Frazetta women and how she hired him to paint her, but give her curvy Frazetta-chick hips.

They documentary also talks about how the original Conan The Barbarian movie was basically a series of Frazetta paintings put to film, which is why it holds up so much better than a lot of 80's movies that seemed like a good idea at the time.

No. :D

I'd forgotten about the documentary--will have to hunt it up. Thanks!
