Holy crap:

Vicodin and its generic equivalents alone are prescribed more than 100 million times a year in the United States.

Who'd want to hoard Vicodin? That stuff is nasty.

In the world of recreational drug users, I think Vicodin & Percocet have largely been replaced by oxy.

I had my doc prescribe just the hydrocodone. Easy fix. And I'm picking up my scrip today! Hooray!

re @ 3:

how very prudish and calvinist.

Life is a series of long lunches, pleasant work, six weeks paid vacation, affairs of the heart that do NOT lead to home wrecking, and very tasty butter and bread and cheese and wine.

Oh and everyone gets their doctor and hospital bills taken care of without going bankrupt.

Why, going bankrupt would mean you can't afford those languid lunches in the summer countryside for the entire month of August!

@5, Isn't hydrocodone generic for Vicodin? Either way, I'm jealous.

2 - well, I have an extended family member who was attacked and bones in his face including jaw were shattered and he has back issues. Unfortunately since the attacker had no money and insurance has paid for the smallest amounts of treatments - he has not received all of the necessary surgeries and is in constant pain. Vicodin is now his friend - without it I don't know what would happen...

Plus House is a really good show!!

Weird Fact: I've had Vicodin and weirdly enough it doesn't even relieve an asperin's worth of pain in me. I'm guessing it doesn't work on everyone...

@11 - The opioids don't work on everyone. You might get better results from straight-up morphine since most opioids are about one-tenth as effective... also acetomenophine is totally a bullshit drug and its efficacy is no better (sometimes worse than) other NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen).

I've been through some serious pain shit, and the thing that I've learned if you want pain-relief and not "pain management" is that you have to tell medical providers that something isn't working at all even if it just takes the edge off and sometimes that means vomiting on them because you took too many pills right before your doctor's appointment.

I really hope the Stranger is paying for David Schmader's trip to Neverland for the public viewing of Michael’s body. Through his eyes I want to know and experience the spectacle that it is sure to be.

@2: Really? Not my experience. I had it prescribed after some oral surgery and was pretty bummed when it ran out.
