Fnarf Will Be Liveblogging Sunday's Soccer Match

Posted by Christopher Frizzelle on Fri, Jun 26, 2009 at 5:25 PM

And Sean Nelson and I will be joining him. The game is at 1 pm. To hold you over until then, here's the Sounders wall across the street, the players' faces now covered over with Michael Jackson's face.

You are so brave to take care of him while I'm at work. And I'm insanely jealous!

It's a huge match too. Colorado's just one point behind.

And it's on KONG rather than ESPN2, so it won't be preempted by a game irrelevant to us here in the NW.

@4, and with two games in hand. Really, they're ahead of us.

I will be liveslogging with no pants on. Ladies, get those imaginations revving! Oh, it's better than that. No pictures, please. Also, 1:00's a little early for whisky, but this is an important occasion! I fugure if I do a good job, I'll not only get cut off at the half, but I'll have my Slog registration revoked by the final whistle.

Actually, I anticipate spending the entire match swearing at my suddenly inoperable computer, and bashing it against the floor, while you all (and by "you all" I mean the three of you who will be following along) wonder if I've died. No Demerol!

Just using English phrases ("games in hand")? You'll be nothing but a boring Caroline Cheese wannabe. Try being original. Tax yourself. We'll be watching.

Can we create one of the Euro chant songs that goes like this:

Tiiiieeeee

Tiiieeeee

Tiiieeeee

Imaging 30,000 fans waving scarfs saying

Tiieeeeee!

@11, Do enlighten me; what is the "American phrase" for "games in hand"? Do you even know what that means?

@12, dear stupid person, if you had seen the cross-stadium call-and-response at the last home game, when the chants echoed from one end to another, and were answered in full voice -- a spectacle that the famed Seahawks "twelfth man" has never matched, not even with scoreboard prompting -- you wouldn't be making your flatulent joke; you'd be speechless. Seriously: one of the great spectacles in sports.

But you're probably waiting for them to flash "noise" on the scoreboard and clapping along with the speakers out of time. Good one.

Wow. You're asking commenters to do Slog jobs? Things are getting v-v pathetic around here.

P.S. I hope you get kicked in the face with a ball, and pummeled by drunken soccer hooligans from the other team.

Fnarf,

I will be checking in, seeing as the Sounders are our team. (At least until the Timbers are up in running.)

Fnarf, you missed my rant over at Publicola.
I may have to boycott this game. The fact that "they" (The Sounders? MLS? Nickels? I have no idea who to target my rage) refuse to delay the start of the Sounders until the end of the Confederations Cup Final -the Most Important Game the US National Mens team has EVER played- has made me absolutely livid. I really fear the ordeal will be poorly planned and await a worse-case scenario: they end their big-screen broadcast from South Africa right when the US gets strong, leaving 30k fans in Qwest puzzles, anxious and frustrated. Who knows how this will reverberate to the team.

I'm looking forward to it. I'll be listening in.

@13: considering Colorado could only muster some 10-year-olds to yell at us there, I can't imagine them having enough drunken hooligans here to kick anyone's face in.

Fnarf 19
@16, supposedly they're going to show the first 60 minutes on the big screen, and the finish (delayed) at halftime, which is pathetic. I agree; they should just delay the game. It's not that hard, but the Sounders are I think still a pretty soft sell for the TV networks -- even garbage stations like KONG. I'll be mentioning it.

@14, I don't even know what you mean. Subtract one from what?

@13, I'm going to be sitting home on my couch during the Great Event, so any drunken hooligans are going to have their work cut out finding me. Mr. Frizzelle can get me into the software but not into the press box.

@10, The phrase "game in hand" is also used in that most British of sports, ice hockey.

@15, The Timbers are playing now! In fact, the Sounders will playing/beating them down in Portland on July 1st in the third round of the US Open Cup.

@10. I first heard the phrase "games in hand" watching baseball over 15 years ago. Baseball, not cricket.

Oh, is fatty getting sad? Don't be pissed just because you are finally called out for being the pseudo-intellectual that you are. What is your degree in? Apparently, you are a lawyer, a doctor, a politician, and a chef. Bullshit. You are so full of yourself that you can't see straight. Seriously, go to school.

@19, my comments at 13 were directed @ Frizzypubes, not you.

And re: your comment to 14... in your own comment at #12, you write "@12 dear stupid person", which is like writing "@ myself, dear stupid person", because you are the one commenting at 12. Subtract 1, and write "@11, dear stupid person". And the first part of that comment should be directed @10, not @11.

Sounders Slog comments have made the jump from 'soccer is for fags' to 'our hooligans are better than your hooligans.' Looks like footie has finally made it in Seattle.

@38, I dunno -- I'll ask Christopher. I'm tempted to liveslog the other game until it ends, especially if it looks interesting (i.e., Brazil isn't up 3-0).
