The Washington Times:

Extramarital affairs, gambling, alcohol abuse, prostitution and sexual pursuit of minors have taken a toll on the GOP.

Other than the sex with minors thing, the Republicans sound way more fun on paper than they actually are in person.

Well, this is ever the way of things: those with the most to hide are the Mrs Grundys of the world (to use the Robert Heinlein reference). Peeping through their curtains at everyone else, worried about throwing doubt onto the activities of everyone else, for fear of their own hypocrisy being exposed.

Too bad there's no way to make a solid legal push for marriage equality RIGHT NOW, while it's clear the opposition has zero moral high ground.

Doesn't take a scientist to figure that one out.

You gotta read the comments from the original article. Absolutely amazing examples of denial bordering on the pathological.

For example, this one which I can't resist quoting in full:
"Social Conservatives CREATE the moral high ground. Social LIBERALS create the moral LOW GROUND. The fact that this poor guy behaves like a liberal should not condemn him, just show why we should all follow the Conservative philosophy and abhor the Liberal one. This actually makes a great case FOR Social Conservatives!"

Classic.

They're like a reverse pinata. The shit comes out first and then you get to smack them around.

@6 I think that's the problem with politics in this country - the liberals are still trying valiantly to engage in warm-fuzzy bilateral discourse based on an assumption of both sides being on equal footing ... and the conservatives are running around the playground with their hands over their ears going "La-la-la-la I can't hear you I'm right you're wrong!". Neither side even approaches rationality.

@7 Best comment *ever*.

Can't we just refer to that band of America-hating scum as the Whig Party already?

sanford is having another press conference, tomorrow, at 10 am.

no word on what he will say but his office press release said it will be in Spanish and there will also be a violinist, a bass and an accordion player.

Hmmmmm.....?

I guess when you self discribe yourself as the "family values" party, people being human has a detrimental affect. I wonder what my GOP family thinks of all this? I won't ask, I'm not in the mood to be lectured to.

The morality party is no more moral than everybody else. The fical conservative party is no more fiscally conservative than everybody else. Now self-delusion, that the Republicans excel at like nobody else!

All that repression leads to some pretty explosive scandals, hey? You talk the moral highground talk for a while, live the "right" way for a time yourself while urging others to do the same ...until one day you EXPLODE and suddenly find yourself in Argentina "hiking the Appalachian trail" and weeping over some latina. If they were just honest with themselves from the beginning, their lives would be a lot easier.

@12 - lol

Conservatives attend church more because they need more churchin' than regular folks. You'd be afraid of change, too, if your moral code was a house of cards that needed to be shored up once or twice a week by a preacher man.
