Re: Why Doesn't Cantwell Lead on Health Care?

Posted by Dan Savage on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 10:07 AM

Eli went to j-school... so he is constitutionally incapable of doing this. But I went to theater school—you should see me fence! and juggle!—so I'll do it: CALL OR WRITE MARIA CANTWELL'S OFFICE AND TELL HER TO SUPPORT THE PUBLIC OPTION. Tell her to lead on health care. Tell her that you're paying attention. You can email Sen. Cantwell here. You can send her a letter at this address...

Maria Cantwell
511 Dirksen Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

And you call her office in D.C. at 202-224-3441. You can fax her at 202-228-0514.

Thanks for advocating for this. I take back all the nasty things I said about your strident one-issue politics last week.

No shit, Will - what happened? I gave you credit for your brief resurgence as an interesting voice a few months ago, but you've totally lost that. Now all you do is nag and tut-tut, like you became boring grouchy old man overnight.

I called before you had the post up and they said that the comments were running 70/30 in favor of single payer.

1 It's never too late to do the right thing Will, make use of the info Mr Savage has provided. I plan to.

@9 - um, wrong. Timing is critical in these things.

You guys love to try to push the Sisyphean rock up the hill.

I prefer to push when it hasn't rolled back down to the bottom yet and it's a heck of a lot easier to get er done.

Timing is critical. Things don't magically happen at the last minute, with very rare exceptions.

For the record, Will, on June 9th and May 12th I put calls out for people to call their reps and ask for a public option to be included.

Right here on slog.

And in both those posts, you dismissed lobbying for a public plan as 'whining', insisting we should instead demand for single-payer or nothing.

10 Mr Savage has wasted a lot of time on nonsense, I agrre with you on that, timing is important, but we can't turn back the clock. I know you care about health care as much as I do, so I hope you called, if we can secure Cantwell on board then we'll be closer to our goal, let's not lose sight Will, please!

I wrote to her last week and got the most dreadful, hyperbole-laden useless response imaginable. Instead of coming right out and saying she's being a weasel about the issue, she tries to snow you into thinking she's doing a great deal to promote health care using lots and lots of Big Words that Say Nothing.

How much money has she been given by health insurance lobbyists?

And furthermore, can we please vote this useless, mean-spirited, dreadful excuse for a senator out of office? Like, now? No? Damn.

Emailed her and the short lady too. I emailed them last month as well. Pretty much I am turning into my Grandpa who wrote his elected officials when things ticked him off.
