Bumbershoot Literary Arts Lineup Announced

Posted by on Thu, Jun 25, 2009 at 8:09 AM

And here it is:

David Cross / S.E. Hinton / Melvin Van Peebles / Writers of LOST: Carlton Cuse, Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz / McSweeney’s New Fiction / Christian Lander’s Stuff White People Like / The Enablers Have Spoken and You’re Fine with Spencer Moody / Zak Smith / Tom Douglas / Manic D / Youth Speaks Seattle w/ Staceyann Chin & Prometheus Brown (Geo of Blue Scholars) / Jessica Anthony / Bill Cotter / Ross Simonini / iLL-Literacy / Seattle Noir / Jess Walter / Kathleen Flinn / Daniel Wilson / Kevin Emerson / Writers In The Schools / Jon Longhi / Amber Tamblyn / Lynn Breedlove / Tara Hardy / Jack McCarthy / Danny Sherrard / Kevin Sampsell / Kerry Cohen / Lyall Bush w/ Devin Sullivan

There are people I'm excited about (S.E. Hinton, Melvin Van Peebles, Zak Smith, and the McSweeney's program, for example) and people I'm really not excited about (Like, oh, say, Amber Tamblyn. Also, I can't believe Lander is still fucking touring in support of Stuff White People Like. And does Tom Douglas really need to take a slot on a literary program?) And the panel by the writers of Lost could be interesting if it's handled well. Not the best year for Bumbershoot literary arts, but probably not the worst, either.

Whoa, I'm right there with Riz. I haven't attended Bumbershoot in the past few years but I will be there this year to see Melvin Van Peebles.

I'm expecting Christian Lander to say breathlessly, "...and you know what ELSE white people like?"

The crowd slowly leans forward in anticipation.

"...Bumbershoot!"

And the crowd, about as white as a North Dakota parking lot in winter, goes wild.

Paul: Do you have specific info on the "McSweeney's program", or is your excitement more of the general variety?

Amber and David Cross probably come as a two for the price of one package these days.

Just remember, there is nothing happening in Georgetown this weekend on Saturday from 2 to 8 pm.

Really.

Absolutely nothing.

(now if I can just figure out how to get there by bus)

My first thought was "Wow, Mario Van Peebles is a writer??? I hope he talks about Jaws 2-The Revenge"

Now anything less is a disappointment.
