Comic Book Resources reports on a new computer application that was announced this weekend:

Longbox, a digital comics platform similar to iTunes, is expected to launch later this year as a free download for Mac, PC, and Linux. Developed by Quicksilver Software, Longbox comics can be download for a suggested price point of $.99 per issue, with the potential for block and subscription pricing. The first two publishers confirmed for Longbox are Top Cow and BOOM! Studios.

The interview is pretty interesting, especially the fact that Longbox's founder says you can also use Longbox to organize any other digital comics that may be on your computer (including comics that you may have illegally downloaded).

I enjoy reading comics on my laptop (I display the comics sideways, holding my laptop like a book so the comics page takes up the whole screen. This way you can "turn the page" by hitting the space bar with your thumb), and I'll be downloading this program for sure. If someone can do an elegant iTunes for all books, that would be a huge step toward ebooks.
