From Here to Eternity

Posted by on Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 8:26 AM

I have failed to get over the death of this fly:
Picture_6.png It met its end with no idea of the significance of its death. The fly on the carpet had absolutely no idea that its death was far more special than its brief and buzzy life. Out of the billions of flies that die every week, it, and it alone, died inside of human history.

So?

Most people who have a historically important death didn't lead lives of grandeur. Most people whose deaths are significant have far greater significance in their deaths then they ever had, or would have had, in their lives, buzzy or otherwise.

For that matter, most people who seek significance in their lives only find it in death.

It's just a fly, and it tried to defy our President.

I have no sympathy for terrorist insects who would destroy our freedom.

Maybe the fly was just trying to find the source of the bullshit odor. Turns out it was Obama's mouth.

Mr Maude thank you. "...it alone, died inside of human history." that does give me a moment of pause.

You've got to be joking.

Only crazy people think that the death of a fly has any significance ever.

and this is significant how?

you truly have created your own reality and your only proof is

other people are doing it?

this is not significant, charles.

duh, its important because Jon Stewart mentioned it.

looking closer at this fly incident, and at the "swatting at flies" idiom, we can further admire Obama. Anyone who saw the clip of him dispatching the fly was impressed: How many of us average folk have tried to bare hand a fly? that's where the idiom comes from: swish, whiff, bzz, repeat. This might be insignificant to most, but to some of us it is symbolic of his efficiency and swiftness.
