Drugs Are Bad, Mmm-Kay?

Posted by Dan Savage on Thu, Jun 18, 2009 at 9:22 AM

Turn a bunch of cats loose in a field a catnip and the result is an "orgy of cat-drool, hypnotic gyrations, and imaginary-mouse-chasing." Basically it's a cat rave, says Vidoegum.

You know how when you click on a YouTube video two windows sometimes open, both start playing the video, but one is a beat or two behind the other? And how that creates a crazy echo effect until you close one of the windows? Don't close the extra window. The accidental echo effect is perfect for this video and totally enhances the experience.

Cato the Younger Younger 2
I have a cat who lives next door who must be doing kitty meth. He acts spooked out and jumps around in the early morning hours. His eyes are bugged out but I haven't checked his teeth...

I loved the cat that was foaming at the mouth. WTF? I've never seen a cat do that. But still, pretty amazing.

It reminds me of 1972. Pretty much the entire year 1972. It's a fucking miracle I'm still alive.

Love this video.

Also, Dan, you only need to click the video once to make it play.

That's the whole reason to have a bag of catnip around: cats are hilarious when they get high.

Now for a moment of sober caution: DO NOT try to make catnip tea. It smells like piss.

Okay, how does a cat get high enough to foam at the mouth? Mine just gets baked and rolls around on the floor.

Great video. I think the foaming may have to do with consumption and/or sensitivity. One of our cats foams and rolls, and the other just rolls.

I adore cats! They're almost like an alien species, they have weird rituals and behaviors and they're completely random when it comes to socializing... sometimes you get a nose rub, sometimes you get a claw in the face.

Cats are like drag queens in little fur coats.

This video = awesome. A former roommate had a cat who would run around in circles, literally bouncing off the walls (jumping up as high as she could on a wall). Catnip also dilated her eyes dramatically. It was like kitty cocaine...

Ahem....I must say I find this video shocking. The hissing, the pawing, the foaming......and most of all, undignified rolling!

You do know that catnip is supposed to stimulate the same receptors in the feline brain as orgasm?

Adorable. Makes me want to try to grow a small patch of this stuff for the neighborhood cats.

Catnip in my window box - a slight breeze is all I need to space out.

The foaming's probably related to eating the fresh stuff, rather than the dried.

1)I had an elderly female cat that would start rolling around in the (dried) catnip then she'd PEE in it...extremely disturbing.
2)Currently, I have two male tabbies, non-related and one two months younger than the other and the older one goes crazy for catnip and the younger one seems to be immune to it...weird.
