People of the World

Posted by Eli Sanders on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 10:11 AM

Via Sullivan, a plea from an Iranian exile:

We do not expect you to fight our struggle, but to help us fight it. We expect people worldwide to put pressure on their governments and politicians not to accept legitimacy of Iranian elections and the fraudulent presidency of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Democratic societies worldwide must not leave the Iranian people alone now that they have risen to the challenge... Friends, we ask you not to let 70 million people in Iran be taken hostage.

Meanwhile, in the White House,

http://www.albawaba.com/en/countries/Cyp…

An invading fly that assaulted US President Barrack Obama during a White House interview yesterday with CNBC’s John Harwood met its end as Obama proved his hand eye coordination to the world. Following a series of warnings for the fly to leave and to let him discuss financial regulations, Obama struck the fly in midair, returning to his interview.

“That was pretty impressive, wasn’t it?” Obama chuckled as the cameras turned on the pounded fly. “I got the sucker.”

On the fly:

Contessa Brewer said of Obama, "yes it shows he has good aim and picks up after himself, too."

?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Guess she's having domestic problems. And suffers from Obamaphilia big time!

And if the Iranians WANT us to speak out then YES Obama should say it's all a fraud.

Now that they asked.

And I like the reference to hostages, too! Very cool on their part.

Besides twitter and proxy servers, what are some ways we can help?

Last I heard, we really can't say with certainty that the election results are fradulent. In the absence of that, the best course of action is to endorse--not demand--a recount. Already, Iranian officials are talking about U.S. "intolerable" meddling: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31380861/ns/…

It very well may be the case that nothing would give Ahmadinejad more legitimacy than the U.S. denying his legitimacy.

Trapped in a Theocracy. If anybody takes sides it will give the regime the excuse it needs to slaughter Iranians. The problem is that so many Iranians like things the way they are. And we have our own problems with religion. Secular government needs revolution. Revolution needs all the people.

I don't recall a lot of support from the people of Iran when Bush and the Supreme Court were stealing the election of 2000. Now they "expect" our help in their fight?

I'll agree to support your revolution if you agree to give me a big discount on Persian rugs.

Agree, but care must be taken on how its done, remember Iran is more than Tehran, and it is in those rural areas outside the capital where the real support for the mullahs really comes from. In those areas any strong outside involvement would be seen as meddling in Iranian sovereignty.

At the end of the day, the US needs to stay the hell out of it. Especially since we’ve never acknowledged our criminal behavior that brought the Revolution on in the first place and reinforced their power (ex. overthrowing Iran’s democracy and installing the dictatorial Shah, paying Saddam Hussein to use chemical weapons against the Iranians in a genocidal war, constantly threatening to attack them during the Bush II years). You sure as hell won’t be reading any of that in the state-run US media.
