Making Things DIfficult

Posted by Charles Mudede on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 4:01 PM

Ahmadinejad enemies are really his friends:

The civil unrest in Iran is not expected to last long, Meir Dagan, head of Israel's Mossad, told parliament.

Dagan also warned if the Islamic Republic's race for nuclear power is not interrupted, Iran will have its first nuclear bomb by 2014, Haaretz reported.

Speaking before the Knesset's foreign affairs and defense committee Tuesday, Dagan downplayed the demonstrations in Iran, saying they were only occurring in Tehran and one other province...

They will do anything to have a clear and distinct enemy in Iran. They hate this complexity, this confusion, this expression of things that do not fit very well into the picture of their war program. Today, 500,000 protesters on the streets of Tehran? And this is the third day of huge protests? The country is at a standstill? All of this means nothing to you guys? These hawks want Ahmadinejad to be in power as badly as Ahmadinejad wants to be in power.

The world can see the country you want to bomb so badly. We see who your bombs will fall on. This is not a nation of Ahmadinejads.

Pisses me off how we our public can feel such a skewed vision of hatred towards a place because of an oppressive force controlling it. Its the people we should feel for, not the people in charge. Same goes for us...

Why is it that Mudede's paragraphs-following-blockquotes get run together in the RSS feed, but no one else's do? Also, why do all but the first paragraph of the blockquotes end up not indented?

. . . oh, I see. Tell Anthony or the appropriate tech person to close your tags in the right order. It makes this unreadable.

daniel pipes, I believe said that it was actually better if Ahmadenijad wins because then the west won't be "fooled" by a reformist face. In other word the west wont be fooled into thinking that the Iranians do not deserved to be bombed. In other words the west might start to see the other as human. And we can't have that because as every neo con knows, deep down every muslim is an evil sub-human who only understands force.

Thank you for your words, Mr. Mudede. Too many people presume a figurehead equals the people. This is something I have acutely tried to avoid over the past decade, given our global standing. Still -- nowhere have I seen this idea more egregiously abused than with reference to Iran.

If nothing else, the awesome events of the last few days will slow down any "bombing Iran" sentiments. The real evildoers here are those trying to bury the fact that the vast majority of Iranians are smart, caring, peaceful people who just want their lives back. Iran is no longer the backdrop for some propaganda style Sally Field movie. I suspect that there aren't many in this world who would ever wish harm on those captured in the photos and videos of the past week since they pretty much look and act like a lot of our neighbors.

The obnoxious John Bolton all but called Obama a pussy today on the BBC for not taking "overt or covert action in Iran." I wish to Christ he and Cheney would just go hunting together in Wyoming.

how DARE those damn Jews worry about Iran developing nuclear weapons and being able to exterminate all the Jews in Israel in just twenty minutes' time starting in five years!

that's so uncool. Why can't they think about the glories of democracy in Iran, and join the party?

they ought to be grateful that if the democracy movement takes hold, and if then Iranians get weapons type nukes, then the Iranian government that kills all the Jews would be a democratic one, not led by someone who stole an election.

Damn Jews. So graceless and selfish -- with them, it's always just me, me me and their incessant demands to not all be killed by nuclear weapons.

Ungrateful wretches.

@10 - why would you assume iran would nuke israel, who incidentally have more than enough nukes to defend itself?

WELL, WELL, WELL

With nukes getting into many hands, the question is simoly - at some future date who will nuke who ....

The question of ultimate horror by any definition I can think of.

Will North Korea nuke Japan, hated enemy for many years?

Will India get so stirred and do Pakistan? Yes, Iran vs. the Jews - or - the Jews vs. Iran?

When is the only question.

(Remember all the nukes in the former Soviet Empire, are they all under strict control of ratioal regimes?)
