Comment of the Day

Posted by on Wed, Jun 17, 2009 at 10:01 AM

Jakey:

I propose that we send thousands of "Comfort Wipe" wands to the White House. After all, we're being treated like shit, so they might as well not get their hands dirty when brushing us aside.

Echoing #2.

I'm all for rights and recognition and stuff...

But lately... lately, Dan... your posts have become so whiny and crybaby and maudlin.

It just makes me want to, I don't know... OPPRESS somebody.

The fact that you thought this comment was worthy of its own posting just shows how completely off the deep end you've gone on this stuff.

I ain't settling for nothing, and I'm not going to let some half-assed old hyphenated-last-name hippie troll like "Will in Seattle" tell me what gays can and can't advocate for. If you're not against DOMA, you are most definitely for it.

Keep posting, Dan and Jakey.

@5 Very nice.

The ageless "if you're not with us, you're against us" crap.

News flash. Gay people are a minority. Without outside support (i.e. non-gay sympathizers), this cause is already dead.

The angrier and more exclusive your language gets, the sooner you find yourself without allies.

I LOVE it. I am totally for something like that to get attention. Genius

@2: Will, I'm not sure what "Medical Benefits" you're talking about. DOMA specifically prohibits (as the DOJ brief reiterated) the granting of marriange-like benefits to same-sex partners/spouses of federal employees (even those whose state law allows for full legal marriage). There is no extension of health insurance coverage for same sex partners mentioned in Obama's press release about his announcement later today, and the reality of what he can do with a "Presidential Memo" is nil. Secretary of State Clinton did make a rule change that allows same sex partners of State Department overseas embassy employees to receive health care from the same government clinics that serve the Embassies, but they probably have to pay out of pocket. (Previously they weren't even allowed to go to those clinics.)

All we're asking is that Obama honor his campaign promises to take a LEADERSHIP role and ACTIVELY support the passage of legislation that does away with DOMA and DADT. And it doesn't have to be RIGHT NOW, but if that's the case, then tell us what the roadmap for it looks like and stop letting his Department of Justice file briefs that antagonize and demonize!

@8 ... (snort) .... oh, sorry, I fell asleep, were you whining again and not actually taking ACTION?

Don't see any lines at the county courthouse.

Much talk, no action.

@9 don't be daft action is never silent. Speech, ranting, raving, being pissed off, is action. It caused a reaction from the white house didn't it? The uproar about the brief caused a REACTION, though not nearly the right REACTION, it was still a reaction. Uproar, protest, letters, emails and blogs caused a reaction. If they shut up now ... what more will they get? Shutting up now would only show satisfaction with the measly results. Being loud mouthed and obnoxious about it gets people to pay attention, gets people to take action, and somehow I doubt that blogging is the only thing that Dan is doing.

People are so dumb. "Shut up and take action" what good does "shutting up" ever fucking do?

So apparently Will in Seattle thinks we're not taking enough action against the problems that we shouldn't be complaining about because we have it so good. Concern troll FAIL.

LOL. You wouldn't know action if it hit you splat in the face.

You want action - look at what the Freedom Riders did.

Now get off your lazy bums and do something.

@12 I'm not saying that MORE couldn't be done or that PHYSICAL protest wouldn't be a better option, I don't know what the best course of action is. I am just saying that spouting that people don't have a right to be pissed off and TALK about why they are pissed off (or at least saying it is ineffectual) just because they aren't also out there marching is an idiotic argument. Silencing people doesn't do anything. It is the people blogging and talking about the issues, bringing them to the people, that get the people off their asses and into the streets in the first place. To a lot of people Blogs have become their news source, and having a blogger that shows their emotion and vulnerability on a topic is a person to look up to or at least relate to on a human level.

Telling anyone that bringing up issues that effect human rights that they are "whiny' because the same rights don't apply to them is insensitive, ineffectual and ignorant.

Will, I hate to break it to ya, but your trolling's slipping. Seriously, man, you're off your A-game today.
