Ugh, what a dumb situation. I think Letterman initially went over the line, but when Palin insinuated that Letterman was some kind of child molester she became the monster.

Nobody believes he was talking about the 14 year old, it was obvious to everyone he was talking about Bristol, she's the one that became known for that. And since when does "knocked up" immediately means getting raped? He should've known better but this is just pure nonsense.

It would be nice to know what companies are pulling ads to put the screws to Letterman, so Letterman's supporters and sort-of supporters could turn some heat on their fascist, censoring, moralizing asses. And @12, oh, I'm sorry "rotten666", well no, if Obama's oldest daughter got pregnant partly because her (for the sake of comparison) crazy mom was opposed to birth control and sex ed. and supported (unworkable, unrealistic, stoopid) abstinence pledges, and Letterman made fun of that, and his (already lame) joke misfired and hit the wrong daughter, Slog would be pretty much the same. what's lame is his apology means that palin has equal or more pull than letterman (or enough pull to force this). i was hoping he would have more, enough so that an apology wouldn't be necessary. he already said the joke was about daughter A, not B. the palin camp insisting he should have known better is basically saying letterman lied. they didn't change their argument to what he apologized for, the appearance of the joke. they just keep saying it was an unacceptable joke.

I read the Jezebel article, it's bullshit. Basically trying to call out hypocrisy on those of us calling out hypocrisy. It's like the reverse racism argument. If Palin wants unscientific religious bullshit taught in public schools, she has made her knocked up daughter part of the debate.

David Letterman should apologize for his entire show, really. The guy stopped being funny about 20 years ago. Of course, he won't be suspended or fired - or even required to give a sincere apology - sexism appears to be perfectly acceptable in America today. And the women of America, right and left, will remember well. So will the dads. In America society protects under age kids ... esp. girls. Period. ALL kids.
Last week I saw a very articulate Palin telling the world how Alaska has NO taxes on its population, none. Course that means nothing is being done correctly in the administration of that state and its resources....
With oil money, do you think Washington would give up its sales tax? End property taxes? Dream on.

Personally, I don't find Letterman that funny in general but seriously, get over it people. Imus, Rush, Hannity and the lot make WAY more offensive comments about innocent people all the time. Anyone with any sort of sense knew he was talking about Bristol not Willow.
Bristol would not be a reasonable target for a political joke just because she's the daughter of a political figure but she is absolutely fair game as a target because she has made herself a prominent national figure in the abstinence only education crowd. If she's going to get up in front of the world and make hypocritical speeches telling people to do what she says and completely ignore what she does then she's making herself a target for late night comedians.
Besides, he's just a damn comedian. His job is to make people laugh not to make sure nobody gets offended. Let him tell what jokes he wants. If enough people turn him off he'll lose his show.
