The Storming of the Basij

Posted by on Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 3:03 PM

The shootings in Tehran today seem to have centered around a headquarters for the government's Basij militia. Protesters tried to storm it and set it afire, and militia men fired into the crowd:

And now it is well after midnight in Tehran, certain streets still filled with protesters:

By the time we here in Seattle begin to wake up tomorrow, another giant rally (called for Tuesday at 5 p.m.) and a general strike may be underway.

Rallies do nothing.

They need to retake the centers of power, as people did during the first revolution when they turned out the Western-backed elites to replace them with the religious elites.

I recommend they realize that and project power where defenses don't exist, and do the unexpected at the times they are least expected.

@1: Sullivan, who I got this from, says they are chanting:

"Alloh-O akbar (God is great)

Mikosham mikosham ghatle baradaram-ro (I'll kill the murderer of my brother)

Basiji-e bi-gheyrat, Doshman-e khoone mellat (The shameless basiji, is the blood enemy of people)"

@2 this is exactly how the last revolution began. With rallies.

Only speaking when you have something worth saying does nothing.

They need to constantly talk out of their asses, as people did during the first Internet wars when they turned out the people who actually took two fucking seconds to think about what they were typing to replace them with the insufferable blowhards.

I recommend they realize that and project bullshit where comments don't exist, and do the completely expected at all times.

Wow Will obviously has great experience in leading revolutions, esp. in the Muslim world.

Imagine if they were to stop wtih the innefective rallies -- you know, NO revolutions start with rallies, right?

What is they were to storm a center of power, like the government's Basij militia?

Oh wait...
well, what if they were to not stop at rallies, and you know, hold a general strike or something?

oh wait.......
