Thanks for Coming to Slog Happy!

Posted by Megan Seling on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 10:43 AM

Was it the best Slog Happy yet? Maybe! For one, Kim in Portland finally got to join us! And there were a bunch of other new faces too—everyone was so nice! The weather was perfect, the food was tasty (thanks for the nachos, Scary Tyler Moore!), and later today I should be posting a whole slew of photos from the party (courtesy of Matt Hickey).

I hope you had as much fun as I did!

One thing I do regret though: I didn't play a single game of Skeeball. After looking forward to it all week, even! It was so nice on the patio, and the Skeeball was all the way inside... next time!

Speaking of next time, where should July's Slog Happy be? Captain Black's? Somewhere else with a killer patio?

Good times last night, and thanks to all for the ACS donations. It was nice meeting Kim and Peter--that is quite a drive for a happy hour!

Confidential to Megan: That wasn't nearbeer.

There’s a decent chance I’ll be able to make July’s get-together. I’m scheduled to be in Seattle that Friday, the day after, so I should be able to come up the night before. So, make it somewhere good, eh? :>

Is was very nice meeting everyone, that I got a chance to speak with. And, to smile across the patio with those I didn't get a chance to speak with. It's wonderful to put a face to a handle. You all were worth the drive, and I'm going to be walking for the next two weeks to pay penance for my gas consumption.

I didn't have to read the entire entry to know that someone would suggest Captain Blacks.

It seems to me you are trying to set this up to be some Linda's hipster place before others have a chance to explore it. You are staking a claim. The hipster cocaine conversation from a couple days ago informs this notion.

Unfortunately, my friend, a well-know Capitol Hill person, already had a bad experience there just yesterday. He was resting and enjoying his drink on the deck. He noticed that a young woman - wearing her hoodie over head on a near 80-degree day - was mocking another couple of people in the bar and him, too.

He also commented on the surliness of the dude with long hair at the door.

So it this how it's going to be? I dread trying new bars (and some established like Smith) because of this fucking attitude. I will continue go out and if anyone tries this attitude, I will put them in their place.

Captain Blacks gets one more chance when I go there. I am not looking for anything but fair treatment and happy attitudes.

I am hoping it was just because they are new and maybe with one just particular customer. We will see.

Darn, sorry I missed it... The husband got laid off from King County yesterday so we kinda totally forgot about it... Damn really wanted to meet Kim and Fnarf this time... Am sorry will try to make July's. Glad you all had fun.

Does Ozzy's still have the roof deck? That might be fun, and I don't think we've done one on Queen Anne, or at least not for quite some time, have we?

@5 - I like the idea of a light rail pub crawl afterwards ... but prefer a killer patio.

If we do it on Queen Anne, it's best to say what the bus lines are from Capitol Hill and the U Dist.

I had a blast-- contrary to some of the reviews I'd read, I thought the staff at King's was charming and patient, both of which I appreciate when part of a large, inebriated group. Congrats again to STM for being cancer-free, and Megan, the Skeeball was totally worth it, because you got 8 balls for $.25.

I can't wait for the pictures to come out so everyone can get a taste of bl7ngman. Everyone on the back patio was staring at me.

Yeah, that sucks, Tina. I was looking forward to meeting you, but your bummer sounds like it's a hundred times worse than mine. It was great to meet the Official Best Slog Commenter Of The Year, Kim in Portland, though, and also the charming Unemployed Lissa (who had better get a serious job soon or that's going to become part of her name).

Plus the regulars, of course. You know who you are. You young people don't understand yet the ravages of age on the hearing, so it's not always easy to make out what people are shouting at me from the other table. I love listening to Elenchos talk about motorcycles even though I don't understand a blessed word of it (those are the ones with two wheels, right?), and I love listening to Original Monique talk about ANYTHING AT ALL. And the staff at King's were flawless in every respect. Plus, I only had three beers, so I didn't piss myself or commit any felonies, so that's good.

the cute waiter kinda looked like jake gyllenhaal. i tipped him handsomely.

so, common knowledge, who was the well known capitol hill person? was it SLATS??!!! oh, no, he will never recover from being mocked by a girl in a hoodie. honey, anyone who looks like him needs to know that mocking goes with the territory. Same goes for Link.

and SLOGGERS ARE NOT HIPSTERS!!!!! get that through your drug-addled brain. the last hipster to wander into our midst was hung up by his heels and stripped of his tight pants, while we burst our pimples at him and farted in his general direction.

much love to megan, joh, lara, monique, kris, jon, aislinn, abby, rhett, mr. and mrs. fnarf, greg, sean, comte, rainman, kim in portland, peter and anyone else i mighta missed. let's do this again next month at CAPTAIN BLACKS just to piss off the begrudgers.

I'm just sorry I'm too socially defective to actually go talk to people unless they happen to be sitting near enough to me to hear my muttered sarcastic non-sequiturs and quasi-Tourette's expositions of sudden bizarre profanity. I did sort of meet Fnarf and Kim but was too stupid to introduce myself, and Elenchos gave me a dirty look when I asked him if the waiter had just carded him.

The staff was really wonderful to me. I got there almost two hours early, because I had another appointment at 3 downtown, so I sat and read my book and drank sodas and they were really amazing. They didn't even charge me for the sodas, so I ended up tipping them more than my food cost.

@20 I was not mean!! I tried to talk to you and you got all "Hrumph" on me so I went away. I thought we made up at the end of the evening, though, when we bonded over Sour Patch Kids. Why are you breaking my heart by saying otherwise!?

@24 Is that a challenge, Fnarf?

Sorry that I had to bail so early--and that, for whatever reason, I did not meet Kim... how'd that happen?

For those of you who saw me in uniform, it turns out there are TIES in Seattle softball, meaning your Oscar Wildes closed out last night's epic showdown in a 15-15 stalemate. Still undefeated!

@27: oh, please. I'd like to see you try. When I was your age, I was callow and shy, and I'd burst into tears if you so much as looked at me, but now I'm an old rhinoceros and impervious to yer slings and arrows. Especially since you probably apologize to mosquitoes before you squish them. Mean? Right. You could make me blush, no doubt (anyone can) but you couldn't wound me. You're too nice to even know where to begin.

You're just worried about not being able to hear people from the other table, Fnarf? Hell, I'm lucky if I can hear the person sitting next to me in that type of atmosphere - although my lip-reading skills are improving incrementally.

And it turns out the doors at the Tractor don't even open until 9:00 p.m. on a weeknight? WTF? Don't these people have to get up and go to work the next day? Or do they just expect that anyone who would want to see a show on a Thursday is 26 and can get by on four hours sleep?
