Prosecutors Say Capitol Hill Casino Was Connected to Drug Ring

Posted by on Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 8:33 AM

The US Attorney's office has filed federal drug and weapons charges against five men after a raid on an underground casino on Capitol Hill yesterday morning.

Charges filed in US District court allege the casino was part of a large cocaine and methamphetamine ring.

More in a bit.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaait a minute. I thought this whole thing was an over reaction by the police who just wanted to dust off the SWAT gear and hassle some innocent card players? You mean there was something bigger behind all of that force? I can't believe the anonymous source left all of this out.

Weird, right?

Seriously, an anonymous source at the scene of the crime was all like, "Man, the worst that happened was someone would, like, lose two hundred quid. And the best that would happen is someone would be up, like, that same amount. Whoop-dee-doo. We just kept a couple hundred thousand dollars around, y'know, in reserve in case someone needed a little encouragement.

"Oh, yeah, and there were drugs there. But not like anything serious. Just, dude, like the same amount of drugs as you'd find at any house party. Sheesh, what's 7 kilos of coke and 3 pounds of meth between friends. It was a complete overreaction. And that car that I've been driving with the secret compartments, those are for my sunglasses and garage door openers."

Man, the SPD seriously messed this one up. Love it.

Why are drug dealers so stupid. I mean really. How are you going to run meth out of the same place you invite a bunch of strangers over to participate in other illegal activities? You wanna deal drugs, fine. You wanna run a speakeasy, awesome. Please do them in seperate places.

A couple of simple rules:
1. If you are storing or dealing large amounts of an illegal substance, keep a low profile.
2. When you are transporting said illegal substances, don't drive high/drunk, and make sure your blinkers work.

And I think someone in the other thread said it, and I know I heard some comedian do a bit on it. Only do one illegal thing at a time. Seriously. You guys being stupid and getting busted drives up the price I have to pay for those products.

You're right @5. Good point. They just kept a few lbs of coke and meth around. Your comment also points out that they may have been undercapitalized if a gambler had gone on a real run. Lots and lots of risk taking with this crew.

Good to have the situation cleared up. Thx.

The quantities of drugs at the establishments is accurate, very little. The alleged opperator of the card room introduced an undercover agent to a big time dealer, the two things are not related. The alleged operator was NEVER a dealer, merely an enthusiast himself.

@ #7 no, the speakeasy never had a few lbs of coke or meth lying around. The dealer was a Honduran that the undercover begged to meet through the alleged operator of the speakeasies, the speakeasies were just cards and after hours drinking. The 2 are completely seperate and the buy never would have happened if the undercover hadn't prodded the operator for an introduction.
