Phase Six: WHO raises Swine Flu classification to full-scale pandemic. Thus far, about 28,000 people have been caught up in the snoutbreak.

Fighting Chance: Obama lets top commander assemble dream team for Afghanistan military.

The Museum Shooter: A reporter recounts his confrontation with the gunman.

This was May 1994, and I was working as a reporter for The Star Democrat, the local newspaper in von Brunn's hometown of Easton, Md. My assignment: Find the source of an anti-Semitic program airing on Easton's cable access channel. That search led me to von Brunn, then in his early 70s.

No Such Thing as a Free Lunch: King County considers jacking up permit fees for school meal programs.

Letterman on Palin: "They're just jokes... Listen to how upset these people are about the jokes."

Tom Carr said he's just following the law so saying he "wants" to release the names is .... wrong.

Unless you're saying he's lying.

Don't you think he should follow the law btw?

@ 1) Carr is arguing to release the names because that's what he believes state law requires. I'm not a lawyer--and I often disagree with Carr--but I'm guessing he's right on this one.

If Irvin and Carr really have a problem with a personnel issue, why haven't they addressed them through personnel channels? Does the City have an HR department? I'm guessing they do.

If it's not a correct use of city property, then dissolve the group. Otherwise, there's going to be a lawsuit and I don't want a cash-strapped city walking into that kind of money pit.

I was hoping Letterman would respond in the way he did. Bravo.

I thought the jokes were crass, but I don't generally think Letterman is that funny anyway. I loved his response though.

I wouldn't trust Susan Hutchinson as far as I could throw her. Her responses merely cemented my belief that she wouldn't get my vote even if she paid me.

1. @2 glad you agree the implication is thus yes, the word "wants" was/is wrong to use in this context.

2. the gay pride group's City debt repayment plan (waiving lots of principal, five years to repay and no interest) isn't "strict" but ratehr could be called "lax," "lenient" or a "sweetheart deal."

I mean really.

3. On that SPU gay group, um, what do such groups do ? Do they use city time or the city dime ? What other groups are there, chess club, Christians for Jesus, Baptists Who Hate Dancing, Christians Who Support Von Brunn?

IOW, great issue keep following it thanks but -- context, please.

@ 7) Not to nitpick, but since you started... (1) Carr wants to do this because he thinks state law requires it, (2) the schedule for gay pride to pay back its debt is strict (if it misses any payment, the interest waiver is off and the city can sue them in King County Superior Court), and (3) read the article or Google other stories about the same subject for context.

King County doesn't need George Bush economics and right wing anti-choice lunacy. Hutchison is a typically arrogant Republican moron, no matter how hard she tries to hide it.

@8: I think Carr is just saying that if told, he'll do it. He's on the record in stating that there is an ethical dilemma presented though, and that will definitely come back and bite the city very VERY hard.

You don't say "well, even though it's an at-risk group, I'm still going to put them at risk". This is why Jebus invented the "employees shall no longer be able to use the conference room for private meetings and are asked to refrain from personal e-mails" memo.

@dave

that's what i hoped might happen. though, he seemed to take it a little more seriously then i thought he would. i wonder if he was pressured into doing this? i wonder if there will be any follow-up from, uh, todd. and how does dave keep his personal life so private?

@1: no, that is not the whole story. the whole story is that a guy was harassed in a public place, transferred across state lines, had his head shaved, and -- apparently -- didn't get to speak with a lawyer for a long period of time.

are these the sort of things you feel the military should not be held accountable for? is this just a paperwork error, or is this a demonstration that certain policies are unjust in how they allow citizens to be treated by their government?

it's a paperwork error either way, sure. but that's not all it is.

'want' implies personal desire. Carr interprets the law to require him to release. it is different.

gay pride is already years in arrears. it is way too late for any repayment plan to be termed 'strict'. 'strict' would have been throwing some deadbeats into jail.

right, google if you want the story. no wonder journalism is down the crapper into the shithole.

hey, look! it's okay for Palin's camp to make pedophile jokes about david letterman raping willow:

"The Palins have no intention of providing a ratings boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show," said Palin spokeswoman Meghan Stapleton. "Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman."

nice.

1) Letterman's jokes about Palin's daughters are part of a broader Palin Derangement Syndrome. Leftists like him are quaking in their boots about Palin, and they should be, because she is real and down to earth and is a genuine Christian Patriot who is on the brink of ousting Barack Hussein Mohammed Obama by a record landslide in 2012.

You can find out more about the conspiracy against Palin by watch this absolutely brilliant documentary:

www.howobamagotelected.com

2) Susan Hutchinson is the kind of hard traditionalist this country needs to rescue it from the Marxist homosexual takeover currently in progress.
