See How That Works?

Posted by Dan Savage on Thu, Jun 11, 2009 at 10:44 AM

A self-professed racist, anti-semitic, right-wing extremist who shoots and kills a black man at the Holocaust Museum... is actually a man of left, says Rush. Because, um, hate is something the left traffics in, not the right. The right is all about reason and compassion.

that will be busted when the cops find a "Mitt Romney 2008" bumper sticker on his fridge

Rush is dizzy from smelling his own rancid fart clouds...

Gee, that's funny. I thought the right was the party of warmongering, the death penalty, and Jaysus (and we all know nobody's ever been killed in the name of Jaysus).

He's your boy, Rush. Admit it. Sure, he's 88, but he came barrellin' out our your gun just as surely as if you pulled the trigger, fat man.

Yeah, I was listening to that as well. Know thine enemy and all that. According to him, Hitler was a leftist and the "Liberal left" is the "part of hate". I'm not certain why you, I or anyone else would expect better of him. Somehow I do, even though all evidence and knowledge of him point to hypocrisy and bullshit laden rhetoric.

Far more than being horrified that he says this shit, though, I'm horrified at the thought of all of those audience members nodding as they listen, agreeing with his bile.

Rush Limbaugh has his head up his fucking ass.

Of course Rush is going to say that. The point is, don't believe a word the man says! People who believe the things Rush says end up shooting doctors and security guards.

Clearly that report about the potential for right-wing domestic terrorism was ridiculous and the Republicans were right to demand its retraction. No conservative would ever, say, shoot someone whose race or occupation conflicted with their political beliefs.

Does Rush listen to his own show... For real how the fuck did he come to this conclusion?? Is Rush back on the happy pills?

This guy was obviously a conservative who bought into republican propaganda.

That said, I went to a school that was pretty militantly liberal, and was surprised with the amount of anti-semitism that existed there. People would excuse their actions by professing that they were doing it under the banner of being "anti-zionist" and "anti-Israel," but there was a lot of really nasty vitirolic stuff against Jews (not Israel) that was being spouted, and spraypainted around campus by liberal students who had (mostly) grown up in sheltered, priveliged leftist communities.

So while I disagree with Rush, and generally find him offensive, I do agree that there's some pretty nasty stuff that comes out of the left, just like the right.

The guy who shot up the Holocaust museum today and killed the black security guard was like a white Louis Farrakhan. I wonder if Farrkhan thinks he's wickedly great. I wonder if Jerimiah Wright would have no problem if he did.

@11 - High school kids of all stripes do dumb shit. Is that dumb shit institutionally enshrined and encouraged by high-profile media figures on the left?

There's nothing on the left like the fanatical support Rush Limbaugh enjoys and the grown adults who are spurred by right-wing hate to kill people.

What the fuck kind of school did you go to, Sam R? More importantly, why would you hang out with these angry, anti-zionist liberals??!

Remember how Bush stopped being a conservative last election when it looked like his negatives were bringing down the entire republican ticket? He was the very embodiment of conservatism...until he wasn't. Yeah...that's how it works...

Hell, even FAUX NEWS isn't buying that line of malarky.

James Von Brunn is a member of the liberal movement to the same extent that Rush is a member of the middle-class, that is, no relation whatsoever.

Rush is only doing what has worked for years now: Say whatever you wish as if it were true, even though it's manifestly not so, and people will believe you.

@13: That's the key difference, I think. There are people on the left who are as extreme and vitriolic as Rush, but they don't get the media attention he does. For that matter, there are a fair number of right-wing talkers who make Rush look moderate, and they have nationwide audiences, too.

Shooting and blowing up women's clinics and doctors wasn't enough for the "compassionate" right wing, now they shoot people working at and visiting museums. This is Rush's America, Murder Inc. Him and Glen Beck and O'reilly.

"Hell, even FAUX NEWS isn't buying that line of malarky."

Goddamnit, Shep Smith isn't enough to make Fox News credible. He's the one guy they hired on (now that wussy Colmes is gone) to play liberal and claim "balance". Stop giving them undue credit when he's a fairly obvious ploy.

@20:

Who said I was referring to Shep Smith? The article on their web site even calls out Von Brunn as a racist and white supremacist.

"...I do agree that there's some pretty nasty stuff that comes out of the left, just like the right."

False equivalency. When was the last time leftist extremists murdered Jews or attacked their buildings with anything more violent than spraypainted anti-Zionist screeds? When was the last time leftist extremists in the U.S. assassinated anybody or set off bombs with the intent to kill or injure people?
