The Plant

Posted by on Wed, Jun 10, 2009 at 11:22 AM

A few hours ago, next to a construction site that's next to Virginia Mason, a construction worker, fresh out of a blue and new-bright Volvo truck, spat on this plant:
-2.jpg
On the back of his red, sleeveless tee-shirt: above, the words "The Crew"; in the middle, the image of skull and bones; and below, the words: "We Kick Ass." But the manly man is really not that manly or that angry with the world. Why? Because he spat in a proper place—the dirt beneath the plant. It is an act of consideration to spit in a place that no one will step on. Had he spat on the sidewalk, we would seen him in a different and much harsher light. Obviously, regular workers do not hate the world has much as the lumpenproletariat.

Jesus Christ, Charles. This is worse than astrology.

Philosophers are just psychologists with a experiment sample size of one.

based upon the comments from the last class struggle spitting based slog post... I would amend the last sentence so "...regular workers do not hate the world has much as the lumpenproletariat and (seattle's) 'khaki collar' class."

It cut the rest of my comment: I only spit on dirt, grass (except on a soccer or playing field, in which case I run over to the sideline), directly into sink drains, and garbage pails with liners. For some reason, when I look to a toilet to spit (soiled or not), I am always opposed.
