James Von Brunn is a "revered elder statesman" to right-wing extremists, a Neo-Nazi, a "birther," a white supremacist, a contributer to right-wing-rant-site FreeRepublic.com, and... a painter.
The security guard he shot has died.

@1 He's not being overdramatic. This is a major step for white supremacists--escalation is possible, even likely. Tom Metzger's "lone wolf" model of white supremacist activism ensures that it will be hard to predict future crimes, as well.

from folks who actually know (southern poverty law, etc), both Dan and 5 are correct. overall, hate crimes are stable because most hate crimes are someone being beaten up or raped, and there is a lot of that, all the time. some guys see a fag or a brownie or a woman and on the spur of the moment, commit a hate crime.

@23: Obviously Eisenhower couldn't have all of the U.S. military serving in Europe walk though the Camps - but what he was able to do was to command that all of the film crews that were under command of Allied forces be deployed to liberated camps and to record and have irrefutable proof for all time the crimes that took place so that 'no one could ever deny' that it happened.
At the Center that I volunteer at we have a section called "the Abyss" which consists of several screens on which loops of (some of) these films (ones from the U.S. and U.K. forces) run continuously.
Ike did force several of the townspeople who lived near some of the Camps to walk through them and to aid in the burial of the bodies.

The guy who shot up the Holocaust museum today and killed the black security guard was like a white Louis Farrakhan. I wonder if Farrkhan thinks he's wickedly great. I wonder if Jerimiah Wright would have no problem if he did. I wonder why people with views like this guy were allowed to speak without any objection at the State of the Black Union rubbing elbows with Tavis Smiley, NAACP, members of the Black Congressional Cancaus, etc.

The museum is canceling the scheduled play. I really hope they change their minds. The attack was clearly done to prevent the play. I hate to use such a phrase, but if they cancel it, they're "letting the terrorists win".
