Headline of the Day

Posted by on Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 8:56 AM

Last night near dusk, a wild mini-windstorm! Cliff Mass says it's called "a marine push," and that he loves them, and that the one last night was EXTRAORDINARY, and gives us the headline of the day:

A Meteorologically Religous* Experience

* sic, but whatever: Cliff Mass can spell stuff however he wants. He is a WEATHER GOD.

I'm told this touched down by our West Seattle bandroom in the form of a 40' whirlwind/tornado of dirt and whatnot which literally drove everyone inside the building...

that was eery for sure. winds whipping trees set against a blazing orange sky. thank goodness science can explain it... i was afeared it was the apocolypse!

that sounds awesome.

That push was crazy. Ive never seen a temp drop that fast before. Like someone turned on the A/C. I slept like a baby last night!

At first, it was a very midwesty experience (from the looks of the orangy/hazy sky). If felt tornado-like and then got very Pacific marine-esque. And it blew dust in my eye which hurt all night.

Up in Wallingford, we saw a freaky red rainbow toward downtown...I was loving that.

Here's the verbatim report from my buddy Cleetus...

"40' tall dust devil (literally a twister... IN SEATTLE!) ripped through the rehearsal studio lot last night on its way to take out power on Alki!!! we were on break, and ran inside when it touched down... lobby of studio filled with dirt... Power flickered, and ultimately went out... Idols, Shivering Denizens, and Cookie hung in the lot waiting for power to return, which it did not... CRAZY SHIT!!!...What is crazy is that it was like 90°, which is why we were kicking it outside. Was instant and kinda brutal... followed by wind and rain... random as HELL!!! No one saw THAT coming yesterday... least of all our local meteorologists..."

Gulf Coast weather in Seattle. Go figure.

cliff must have a boner right now.

It was crazy in the U-District, I could barely see with all the Pollen/Dust being blown around, my eyes were super irritated.
I also noticed that the storm either brought in a ton of these miniature green mayflies or just knocked them all out of the trees. I got home covered in these little bugs. kinda gross!

I was lovin' the storm. Until we went outside to enjoy it, and a giant branch snapped off a tree about 80 feet above my head and almost killed me. I immediately cursed nature and retreated to the safety of my four walls.

For a moment I felt like I was in the movie Twister - about to be sucked up like a heifer in a pasture. But no, it only picked up all the maple seeds on my roof and dumped them on my patio.

my cat was flipped out BEFORE the push and clawed the fuck out of my stepson when he tried to pet him. kitty ran around the house being spooked and yelling at nothing during the event.

which was karazy.

That was hear weird... I was sitting outside and it was warm and calm, then all the sudden a couple yearling deer came crashing like crqzy through the woods... 30 seconds later the wind came whipping over the trees and all hell broke lose. I thought for a sec it was a tornado too as I was running to the back door.
