"Blender Defender"

Posted by on Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 2:25 PM

How one man taught his cat a valuable lesson with a motion-detector-rigged blender.

Thank you, MetaFilter.

The project cost at the bottom reads like a Priceless Visa commercial. l:p

Not the slightest bit funny. And his plant is ugly, too.

I'm with #6. This "inventor" seems like a bit of an asshole, as do most of the people posting on his site.

Whew! I was half expecting the cat to end up IN the blender.

The video is amusing, but it doesn't seem to be teaching the cat much - it keeps getting back on the counter. I've had pretty good luck with a piece of newspaper just over the counter edge with several empty aluminum cans just barely balanced. Cat jumps up, catches the newspaper, and pulls a half-dozen aluminum cans noisily down. I don't recommend leaving the trap in place at night unless you have rubber sheets on your bed, though.

"WTF was THAT?!!!"

There is a great commercial alternative, though it has an unfortunate name: the Scat Mat. It has successfully taught my kitty to avoid a piece of furniture AT ALL COSTS.

Funny until the cat steals the breath of it's owner the next night. THEN we'll see who's left laughing.

The last video, where the cat flips out and runs up the wall around the sink, is the best one. I've seen it loop probably fifty times now and I still can't drink anything while I'm watching that.
