This Is Not a Useful Website

Posted by Paul Constant on Tue, Jun 2, 2009 at 4:41 PM

Some people were talking about this website at BEA as one of the ways people can use the internet to enhance the reading experience: Storycasting ("For the Movie in Your Mind!") is a website where you can cast actors in the roles of characters in books.

But wait! There's more!

...Actually, no, that's just about it. That's about all you can do. What a weird, unnecessary little website.

Why, those choices look like they're the work of lonely bookish 20-somethings!

Oh, wait...

My god Paul. Websites don't have to be useful. Been on the internet long?

Jesus H Fucking Christ, that's godawful casting for that book. Not the worst I've ever seen (Keanu Reeves for Eddie!), but still godawful.

THERE BE TYPO ON SIGN-UP OF NON USEFUL WEBSITE. THIS LIKELY INDICATES THAT MY ATTEMPT TO CAST ANGELINA JOLIE AS HUMBERT HUMBERT WILL RESULT IN IDENTITY STEAL OR CREDIT FRAUD.

I agree with w7ngman. Useless sites are a founding characteristic of the web. Where were you in 1994?

I checked out the site a bit.

Daniel Craig and Christian Bale get picked for everything. Sometimes they get voted for in multiple roles in the same thing.

However, there's hardly anyone voting anyway, so it's probably just one guy/gal who thinks Daniel Craig and Christian Bale would be perfect for every role in every movie.

And it's grammatically incorrect, so it's even more useless now.

*shudder* I looked at some books I consider particularly cinematic, and the casting choices were both vapid and stupid. It's like the people casting votes on that site only know about 10 actors in the entire world.
