When Juggalos Attack

Posted by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee on Mon, Jun 1, 2009 at 3:17 PM

A 15-year-old Shoreline teen was severely injured at the Folklife Festival after he was apparently attacked by a gang of Juggalos.

According to a report just released by the Seattle Police Department, the teen was sitting underneath the Space Needle talking to a group of girls on May 23rd when he spotted several men wearing dark clothing and clown makeup attacking another man.

The teen tried to intervene in the fight and was allegedly attacked by two of the Juggalos who, the report says, punched the teen in the jaw six or seven times, put him in a headlock and threw him to the ground.

The report says the teen's jaw was "severely broken" in the attack and required surgery. The teen now has four plates in his jaw, which is wired shut.

The teen could not give police a clear description of the men because they were wearing makeup.

The report lists the Juggalos as a street gang, but SPD could not immediately provide information as to whether or not Seattle's Juggalo gang is an organized group.

Can you name another musical group that has spawned such a bunch of fucking worthless fans? I mean Jimmy Buffett fucking sucks, but his fans don't get tattoos of cheeseburgers on their arms or anything.

A shooting last year. A severe beating this year. I think it's time for the city to like a long hard look at the Folkies and the unruly element that they attract.

The young man was doing the job of the police. It's the role of the police to beat and be beaten. He was not a hero, nor was he smart.

I have no doubt the young man had a mobile phone, 9-1-1 is so easy even a teen knows about it.

Raping doesn't count as losing it? As violent j said, "Who is gonna take me seriously? I mean, I'm wearing fucking clown makeup!"

4 and 5, granted his move was probably idiotic, but for fuck's sake now we're going to start condemning people for actually try to help out? He saw someone in eminent danger and chose to act, it was not the smartest thing to do as a lone 15 year old is not much of a powerhouse, but I for one find it commendable that his immediate reaction was to help, rather than run.

They're not a gang.

They're an anarchic syndicalist commune founded on juggling principles in opposition to the military industrial church state paradigm.

I know someone who was attacked by Juggalos in Pike Place a few months ago. Are they prevalent in Seattle?

I have to say--it's not fair to immediately assume that kids in dark clothes and makeup are Juggalos. And for that reason, it is equally unfair to categorize all Juggalos as worthless. Let's just call it what it is-some violent fuck ups beat up a kid trying to help. Would it have been as big of a discussion had they been red necks or punks or emos?

With all the fucking cameras out there, why aren't people snapping photo's of these assholes? Get pictures people! Try to take photos of their vehicles. Fight back smart!

5- I guess those bus riders who jumped to defend that blind woman being attacked were "not heroes and not smart".
Yes, call 911, but if you can just sit there and watch someone being beaten up without trying to intervene, sure you might save yourself a wired jaw, but you will also be an asshole.

@13 A juggalo's makeup is easy to spot compared to everybody else's (including goths). And, for awhile there, they were pretty violent...at least in the suburbs of Michigan.

we need to slow down and try to understand & respect Juggalo culture, the way we did with hobos, and now we all love hobos and invite them into all our parks to live year round. someone needs to make a film showing us how misunderstood Juggalos are.

the juggalos are pretty much one of the few diverse groups that seattle'd be better without

at least crustpunks and street kids add some amount of (grody) flavor, these douches are more boring and bland than emo-kids with the redneck chav-instinct in full-bloom

The blind woman on the bus was attacked by how many people? Can you count that high? The young man at the Seattle Center was not attacked by ONE PERSON, it was MORE THAN ONE PERSON ("several men"). Can you count to one? I think not! So the lesson here children is that trying to defuse an attack does not make you smart nor does it make you a hero. What do we have at the end of the day here children? We have TWO (can you count that high) individuals that have been beaten severely by a gang of hoodlums in face paint. If you can count to one, like the bus riders defending the blind woman by all means jump and be a hero along with overwhelming odds against a single attacker, however if you're not able to count to one and you see 'many' individuals attacking a person, you might save both yourself (to be a hero in the future, but not now) and the intended victim, by calling for the BIG boys, the Police. Use some common sense here people know when to help and when to call for help. There is a big difference. One makes you useful, the other just makes you sore all over.

Folklife? Underneath the Space Needle? Did SPD bother sending anyone to this event? I mean... I know hippies are as big a crime risk as Mr. Rogers on valium, but it's still a big festival and you still get a lot of troublesome patrons showing up to these events. You'd think they'd have a squad car or at least a cop or two milling around the area in question.

This country used to have meaningful, even historic youth counterculture that significantly challenged "the establishment." That is what rebellion used to mean in this country. Now we have shit like this, the Juggalos. Pathetic. Absolutely fucking pathetic, that we've allowed our culture to get this ridiculous.

Juggalos may be retards, but it works. It upsets the "conservatives" who want to restrict people and how they dress and think. Therefore it's a good thing. They should be supported by anyone against fascism.
