How Would You Feel?

Posted by on Thu, May 28, 2009 at 10:54 AM

I would feel better about this video if they'd omitted the same-sex titty twister.

As a whitie, I'd totally wreck Mrs. Phillips.

I'd fight back with every bit of strength I could gather... and then I'd fight back some more!

You might say it's funny because it's true, but unfortunately evangelicals are quite capable of ignoring all that stuff because divorce, premarital sex, etc. are all quite normal these days. They'll eventually learn to ignore/accept gays and gay marriage too. Maybe in 50 or 100 years, but hey, this stuff DID used to be taken very seriously too.

My grandfather divorced his first wife in the 30's and it was a *major* family scandal. People whispered and tsked about it for decades, and my grandmother (his second wife) was never fully accepted by most family members.

In more recent years, I've had family members marry, divorce and remarry, marry people of different religions and races, and get married having had children out of wedlock (my family is pretty "average American", and almost none of them have followed the "traditional" get married once-have kids-stay married forever path). Most of them get married in churches, even though they haven't set foot in one for years. No one bats an eye - the entire family shows up and celebrates. People's attitudes change.

Great piece, but it could do without the nipple-tweaking at the end.

Great ad... but is it intentionally doing the polygamy tie-in, with the MFF trio at the end? I thought that SSM speaking points denied that SSM is a stepping stone to legal polygamy?

@7 I'm pretty sure that's two lesbians with their son.

Ok, looked at it again and I guess you're right. It's disconcerting tho', as they're shown for a very short time, they're both very young-looking and he's so tall ;-)

@4- it won't take 50 or 100 years. probably more like 10 to 15.

@12 Unless it fails in the federal Supreme Court. Then it will indeed be generations before the damge is undone -- legally speaking.

They should've also nixed an infertile couple, since procreation is the reason for God creating marriage.

It looked to me like a MFF trio at first, too. I had to pause to make sure. They still look really close in age though.

I definitely agree that the nipple tweaking between the plus-sized gents was an inappropriately sexual moment. The family shot of the couple with their kid getting nixed was more touching. If we're trying to illustrate the unfairness of tearing couples and families apart, it's nicer to show pleasant images than a TMI moment like that.

So all of those in favour of controlling how people demonstrate love (including nipple tweaking) please raise your hands.

Come on people it's not in the good taste book.

Motion carried.

It might really be two lesbians with their son but it looked like one geeky dude happy to snag two chicks. If the point is to have an effective emotional message the appearance is more important than the reality, and that is an ineffective choice.
