Slate confirms the pronunciation of the as-yet-unconfirmed SCOTUS nominee's name, with audio of Sonia Sotomayor saying her own name, presumably correctly.

And the name means man-hating-lesbian-foetus-eater in Spanish. Actually that's what it means in GOP-ish. In Spanish it means "older grove" or "the main grove" - as in the old established grove vs the new one planted a few years back, the one the militant lesbian judicial activists use to hang the foetuses up to dry on.

Well, I hope she'll have many pundits mangling her name as "Supreme Court Justice Soda-mayor" for years to come.

"Get a life" -- that's a good one, Will. Very au courant -- NOT! Hah-hah, remember "not!"? Maybe you should throw in some "van down by the river" and "two wild and crazy guys" for added sparkle. Yeah, that's the ticket.

It's always 1986 in Will in Seattle's world.

The best thing about her appointment, assuming she's approved by the Senate, is hearing the very Latin, very un-Anglo, music of her last name. About friggin' time. And a Nuyorican, too!

You have to be a special kind of retarded whitey not to know how to pronounce that name.

I can't help but wonder: Is she related to the late great Chicago political cartoonist and AIDS activist Daniel Sotomayor: http://www.glhalloffame.org/index.pl?ite…

@8 -- yes, and almost all of them are pronounced "wrong", maybe on purpose.

Us sporty types know this name from the great Javier Sotomayor of Cuba, who still holds the world record in the high jump of 2.45m.

(We'll kindly forget his positive drug tests, as we do for many US athletes.)

Also, Shelby is right. It's not that hard of a Latin name to pronounce correctly, if you have any exposure to the Spanish language. Guess we know how the FoxNews crowd will be pronouncing it. Just sayin' (wink).
