We're Paying For It

Posted by Dominic Holden on Thu, May 21, 2009 at 1:45 PM

Right now, the SPD is using squad cars and vans and a riot of highly paid cops to raid an alleged jack shack. Then tax-payers will fund prosecutors to work for hours filing charges and for judges to hear the cases. Why, why... without law-enforcement's intervention, men might have orgasms and women would have rent money. Egads! Meanwhile, elsewhere in the city, we can safely bet that someone is getting robbed, raped, burgled, beaten, or is the victim of another crime—which all these cops could be stopping instead. As I wrote earlier, I don't think prostitution should be a crime. And raids like this waste limited police resources that should be spent on violent and serious crimes, which actually pose a threat to the community. Any enforcement on prostitution—a widespread industry in this and every other region on earth—is, by nature, selective enforcement. But what consenting adults do behind closed doors, without harm to anyone else, should be of no concern to the SPD. And I don't want to pay for their anti-fucking crusade.

You're ranting, Dominic, and it's inappropriate. You can't translate/interchange your push for decriminalization of marijuana to this complex issue. It is illegal, and businesses operating illegally will and should face the consequence of operating illegally.

Prostitution is illegal in the United States for many reasons. Deal with it or start lobbying.

Whining about it on the internets is all that it is: whining about it on the internets.

*more specifically, illegal in our state. Not all the states.

The other day there were FOURTEEN SPD officers chasing that bear. I think that's more than the entire north half of the city normally has on duty.

I'm not whining, I'm criticizing.

criticize: To judge the merits and faults of; analyze and evaluate.

whine: To complain or protest in a childish fashion.

LOL!

Assuming the women are consenting, and were not brought here under false promises of employment from a poor country, only to be forced to prostitute themselves for their "owners" that control every aspect of their lives and prevent them from ever hoping to return to their homes. God forbid they be arrested and freed from the men that control them.

There is negligible benefit to society to use valuable crime prevention resources to combat prostitution. There is a vast benefit to society to legalize, regulate, and tax prostitution. It is an unbelievable waste of resources to use them in this way. It would be far cheaper for Seattle to have ten poets laureate and it would provide roughly the same value.

If prostitution was legal, how would cops ever manage to get laid?

Most of the arguments against prostitution would be invalid if it were legal. And, yes, it's a horrible waste of police money and time. You go on and "rant" about it. You are right!

The fact that you even felt a need to defend yourself proves my point.

And Dominic, of COURSE SPD is going to send every man-jack on-duty today to bust a jack-shack, because THEY MIGHT SEE BOOBIES!

@12 No. And woman are not the only ones that sell sex dumbass. I doubt the law would say "Prostitution is legal, but only if a woman is the prostitute"

you are totally correct, "we're paying for it." paying for the police to put a stop to illegal activities; like robberies, rapes, burglaries and beatings.

don't like that they're upholding the law? then as another commenter pointed out get off the internet and start lobbying to have the law changed. when prostitution is no longer illegal the cops will no longer be conducting raids and you can calm down; until their job causes them to uphold another law that you don't personally agree with.

Do you watch the direction that America is being taken in and feel powerless to stop it?

Do you believe that your voice isn’t loud enough to be heard above the noise anymore?

Do you read the headlines everyday and feel an empty pit in your stomach…as if you’re completely alone?

If so, then you’ve fallen for the Wizard of Oz lie. While the voices you hear in the distance may sound intimidating, as if they surround us from all sides—the reality is very different. Once you pull the curtain away you realize that there are only a few people pressing the buttons, and their voices are weak. The truth is that they don’t surround us at all.

We surround them.

So, how do we show America what’s really behind the curtain? Below are nine simple principles. If you believe in at least seven of them, then we have something in common. I urge you to read the instructions at the end for how to help make your voice heard.

The Nine Principles

1. America is good.

2. I believe in God and He is the Center of my Life.

3. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday.

4. The family is sacred. My spouse and I are the ultimate authority, not the government.

5. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it.

6. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results.

7. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want to. Government cannot force me to be charitable.

8. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion.

@StillNon, and others:

The definition of whining is complaining about issues when you do not agree with the merits of those complaints.

Being outraged at the priorities of law enforcement or the enforcement of unjust laws is not whining. It is activism, and is what starts the momentum to change laws.

When conservatives complain about taxes, even if I do not agree with their position, I do not accuse them of whining either.

"Shut up and deal with the status quo" is not an acceptable way to debate in a democracy.

@17 You like to control people, don't you? And yes, I like the direction the country is going now that we have a President who has a brain and uses it. You pretend you have the answers when all you have is self esteem issues and control issues. Your agenda is for losers. Your ideology is useless.

@16: "you are totally correct, `we're paying for it.' paying for the police to put a stop to illegal activities; like robberies, rapes, burglaries and beatings."

Zeebleboop, in this case, we're not paying for them to put a stop to illegal activities like those, which are violent crimes against persons, we're paying for them to put a stop to victimless crimes involving consenting adults. Surely you see the difference.

It seems that this business was causing parking problems. Why sent the SWAT team instead of parking enforcement?

Somewhere else in the city, dangerous crime is taking place, and the police are telling us they're understaffed -- while they're devoting all these resources to clearing up some parking. I don't blame the neighbors for complaining about the parking situation, but let's not pretend that this is any more important than a matter of parking.

Secondly, he is also manly enough not to be anonymous. He has opinions without the veil that internet provides. You however ... are like a rabid rat when backed into a corner and lashing out by getting personal because you don't have anything substantial to support your viewpoint on this particular subject matter.

I think overall even if you disagree with prostitution the idea that you can stop every single woman in the city from selling her body to men who are willing to pay for it is laughable. It's fucking capitalism, the market demands wet holes for rich men to stick their dick in, the market demands that every single human being earn enough money to survive. Create all the laws you want, bust all the people you want, no one is going to stop selling their body for money, period.

I'd gladly pay for their jihad on jack shacks, especially when they're located in residential neighborhoods. Prostitution isn't always a "victimless crime", considering the people that have been trafficked into this country for white slavery, and the fact that some prostitutes are underaged. With many prostitutes resorting to selling sex to feed drug addictions or pressing financial needs, you'd have to be a completely crass asshole to insist that they're "willing adults" or that there aren't any victims.

That doesn't even begin to get into the public health threat posed by prostitution. There's absolutely no excuse or reason whatsoever to dismiss that concern as "moralizing" or whatever you'd call it, either. It's common fucking sense. At least it SHOULD be, by now.
