That block of unfinished apartments at 14th Avenue and East Union Street is... an adorable puppy.

Don't you want to live in a puppy?

The website is replete with images of kibble, dog biscuits, and other accessories to quell a growing dog trapped in a one-bedroom apartment. Anything to get an edge in a tough market, I guess. But it's going to be a great building, not that I would know. It's not like one night after several glasses of wine I hopped the construction fence, climbed the saw-dust-covered stairs, and gave myself a tour, taking in the skyline from the sixth-floor corner unit. Nope, wouldn't do that.

Overbuilt housing stock, economic recession, low interest rates... where the fuck are my cheap rents, Seattle landlords?

Wouldn't it be amazing if they didn't even allow pets?

@5, patience. I just signed a lease that for asking price but with several months " rent credit" where I don't have to pay whichever months I choose, whenever I choose. That's how the downward pressure on rents and panic over higher vacancy rates is showing itself here at the beginning - not necessarily by reducing nominal rent, but still effectively cutting about 15% while adding flexibility.

Pressure keeps mounting, too - interesting to see what leases look like a year from now.

This sign stops me dead in my tracks every time I walk by. Quickly followed by a WTF?!? I do NOT get this at all. Odd. Thank you for posting.

Another fine example of "Gratuitous Use of a Dog"

Whenever we see an ad for a product or service that has nothing to do with dogs using a canine as a prop - that's the phrase/term we use.

Well, as Groucho Marx observed: "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read."

So, there you go.

Don't you just love walking on the sidewalk and finding it covered in dog poo?

#5, have you looked? Rents ARE down. I've seen decent looking 1 bedroom in Capitol Hill for $700, and that was pretty unheard of 1-2 years ago.

@13: I haven't been able to find data that tell me what is happening to the median rent, but I've been poking around on Rent.com and the rents I checked there look the same as they did a year ago.

I walked past this the other day in wonder as well. I think its telling the prospective buyer/renter:
'Hi. You're Chloe- a chic urbane lapdog owned by x developer..'
Every unit is just big enough for you to eat, shit and have a pad to curl up on. Run along, now, Chloe.

This sign is just asking to be remessaged by PETA...or maybe those anti Foie Gras people...or maybe some random stranger taking a tour of the building in the middle of the night (eh hem).
