Family Values

I know, I know: enough. But this item is worth a measly, mean-spirited Slog post: Carrie Prejean's mom—according to gossip rag Star—was recently dating a woman. How recently? Well, so recently that when Miss CA said that, "in my country, in my family, I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman," her mom's girlfriend—then current, now ex—was watching and wasn't pleased.

That statement didn't sit so well with her mom's new girlfriend. Openly gay sales rep Valerie Vetrano tells Star exclusively, "Yes, Francine and I dated." However, the affair was doomed, says a source. "Francine explained how she was a Christian and that her loved ones would never accept her if she were gay," the friend says. When Valerie asked her what would happen if she told her daughter Carrie about the two of them, Francine responded, “Carrie would never believe it!”

More at the Star.

Nothing like passing unsubstantiated rumors along to the sloggers. Now you're using the star as a source? Way to be a dick.

Star Magazine, Dan? Do you really have it in for her that much? What's next, a post about Carrie Prejean's torrid affair with Bat Child?

And, yes, I do "have it in" for people who have it in for me and my family, who are out there working hard to deny my partner and child the protections of marriage. I don't have a problem with people who disapprove, or think it's sinful, or whatever—as I've written here and in my books. I take issue with anti-marriage-equality activists, especially log-stupid and way-hypocritical ones.

Weird, huh? Attack someone's family and the guy is likely to take that personally. Whoa.

Good Morning Dan,
Word. I don't think of the Star as reliable journalism. Besides, as you imply, L'affaire Prejean is getting old. She has exhausted her 15 mins of fame.

I really love when anti-gay bigots are dragged into the spotlight to reveal what hypocritical assholes they really are but not when the information obtained is from Star. That’s pretty weak.

This is one of those cases of outing that I dislike. Her mom is not a public official or even a public figure. Nor has she made any public statements for or against anyone or anything. I just feel she deserves her privacy. Her daughter on the other hand...

This is low and pointless even for slog.
She never said there were no homosexuals in her family; only that she believed there should not be.
She has high standards.
And has been disappointed by her mom.
Carrie sticks to her beliefs.
Even where her mom is concerned.
Her integrity is to be admired.
It is a family tragedy.
But not really anyone else's affair.
Dan.
And Carrie did not "attack your family".
She was baited by an asshole and answered honestly.
Get over it.
Please.

Just because it's the Star, doesn't mean it's not true. After all it was the National Enquirer who first broke the John Edwards affair story. Nonetheless, I won't buy it til a more reputable news source writes it up.

That said, this is SLOG, not the Stranger proper, so anything's game.

This is great.

P.S. Savage is not claiming it's true, he's just saying that it was reported in the "gossip rag Star" and passing it along. If you want to give it more credibility than Batboy's divorce from Octomom, go right ahead. I, for one, plan on doing exactly that.

If she had said her piece at the pageant and then resumed her modeling career, I wouldn't have an issue with Miss CA. No one has to like us, no one has to approve. When she threw her lot in with NOM and began actively campaigning against the rights of same-sex couples and families—and raising money for NOM to advance their efforts to strip gay families of the protections of marriage in the handful of states where we can get legally married—Miss CA upped the stakes. She's entered politics and you know what they say: if you can't stand the heat...

She pointed to her family, and the bible, in her statements *after* the pageant. So this isn't just a case of a pretty girl being "baited by an asshole and answered honestly." She's decided to leverage her spat with Perez into a political career as a professional anti-gay bigot. And that's invites a political response. War is hell.

Sleeping around with women is fine, so long as you just string them along and don't marry them.

That's what people like Prejean believe.

If this is true, I don't think this is big news at all. According to this story, her own mother didn't want her to know because she "would never beleive it," "and that her loved ones would never accept her if she were gay." I figure all this story shows is how everyone knew Carrie has deep-seated homophopic tendencies and anyone who knows her knows that.

So... what this is really telling me is that this bimbo's crusade is really just a nasty, mean-spirited way of getting back at a mother who probably, as pageant parents are wont to do, drove her too hard and was never satisfied with anything she did, and maybe of hurting her mother's girlfriend(s), of whom she was probably jealous and resentful.

It's always so sad and icky when (nominal) adults act like they're 12 years old. Can't she just move away and never call like all the rest of us who have parent issues?

So it's ok for PROPONENTS of gay marriage to state their opinion, we must all be tolerant of that. ok, fine I agree with that.

But OPPONENTS of gay marriage - they must be silenced, they cannot state an opinion, if they speak, we will smear theem all over the internet, get into their private business and we must NOT tolerate their opinion.

Whose being intolerant now? The gay marriage proponents are the intolerant slime monsters.

I was starting to think maybe it would be ok to have gay amarriage if everybody could just keep their private business private, because I like Adam Lambert so much, he's really opened my eyes that you can be wahtever you want and it's nobody else's business, but no, the gay marriage proponents will not allow that - it has to be in your face, kiss my a$$, accept me or I will destroy your privacy, so f*ck you, I will vote against gay marriage for the rest of my life just to make you people shut the hell up.

The constant digging into Miss Prejean's background is disgusting. You ghouls in the media have no shame and no class.

Welcome to liberal run media, America. If you're like Miss Prejean and give an honest answer to an ASKED QUESTION (and give an answer a majority of Americans agree with, but is still "politically incorrect"), be prepared to have your privacy invaded like no other private citizen.

Good job to Slog for being one of the many attack dogs for the liberal establishment.
You deserve a treat.
Good dog.

This actually raises Carries legitimacy to comment on Gay Marriage.

Who knows more about what it is like to grow up in a Gay household:
An adult homosexual raised by traditional Catholic heterosexual parents
or
A young person whose mother is a Lesbian (and father may be gay?)

Carrie seems very qualified to have an opinion on Gay Marriage.

And seems to be very sure, based on her life's experiences, what SHE would choose.

Maybe that is why the Gay Brownshirts are trying so hard to destroy her....

"Weird, huh? Attack someone's family and the guy is likely to take that personally. Whoa."

You have it exactly backwards Dan.

Carrie went out of her way not to attack anyone.
She went out of her way not to try to force her views on anyone.
She made it clear she was esxpressing her beliefs and not condeming anyone else.

You, on the other hand, have viciously attacked her daily since the pageant.
You stoop to a new low here, however, dragging her family into it.

And yet you have the Gall to say:
"Attack someone's family..."

Whoa.

You are a snarling petty spiteful hypocrite.
Go ahead.
Wallow in it.

Eric Zorn
of the Chicago Tribune
disagrees with you, Dan:

"Regular readers know that I'm a stalwart supporter of the rights of gay and lesbian couples to marry and so might be surprised that I'm coming to the defense of Carrie Prejean.
"...First, I can't find much wrong with what Prejean said ...
"When she says she thinks that she believes marriage should be between a man and a woman, she's merely restating the official position of nearly every Democratic politician in America, including President Barack Obama himself.
"And her answer hardly thunders with moral condemnation or a determination to keep gay marriage illegal. Nor, per the indignant Mr. Lewis, was her answer even remotely religious in tone (not that there would have been anything wrong with that!).
"Her phrasing seems to express more of a personal sentiment, an emotional reaction: She "thinks" marriage should be between a man and a woman. And, like it or not (and I don't), this answer better "represents all Americans" right now than the views of Perez Hilton or" Dan Savage.
