Twilight of the GOP

Dan, the GOP gap is growing not only with women but just about everybody.

The decline and fall of the Republican Party in recent years has been so widespread that the party has lost support among nearly every major demographic subgroup of likely voters across the country, according to a new Gallup poll.

Good Morning Charles,
Wow. Why the obsession with the decline of the GOP? It most certainly will rebound. It was in far worse shape in 64' & 74'. Like yesterday's Gallup poll showing the nation is "Pro-Life", this doesn't mean much. Americans actually like bipartisanship. In addition, the Democrats (ie. Obama) can't cast off vestiges of the prior administration (DOMA, DADT, rendition, tribunals, no prosecution of Bush officials let alone a Truth Commission, even the closing of Gitmo is proving problematic). The administration is way too young to draw any conclusions on the country's political disposition as a whole.

I just hope they keep playing to their base. It's the least liked group and when you add the mean spirited nature of people like Limbaugh, Gingrich, and Beohner, they will stay unpopular.

With the exception of the wingnut Christianists, I notice.

I feel like right now Obama is sowing the seeds of the Republican Party's eventual resurgence by failing to treat the American people like adults (whether or not the American people deserve to be treated like adults). The Obama administration is trying to expand government benefits and at the same time promising tax cuts for 98% of Americans while making only a halfhearted effort at taking on government spending.

I'm all for expanding certain government benefits, like establishing universal health insurance with a public option. But if you think you're going to get there just by controlling costs and taxing around the edges, you're deluding yourself.

Anyway, can we please all stop being distracted by Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich and Dick Cheney, convenient cartoon villains though they may be? If the Obama administration and Congress and the American people can't get serious about establishing a sane, sustainable new foundation for our economy, we're going to have a whole new generation of Limbaughs and Gingriches and Cheneys to deal with soon enough.

Magic Jesus still loves 'em, that's what's really important.

Republicans ... remind me, are they that party that was before or after the Whigs? I can't remember my ancient history that well ...

They were saying the same thing about us Dems in 2004.
