"If we canceled Joss Whedon's show I would have got 110 million emails from his fans today."

Posted by Paul Constant on Mon, May 18, 2009 at 3:45 PM

Fox has announced their fall schedule and there's a bit of a surprise: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the Terminator TV show, has been cancelled, but Dollhouse, the drama from Joss Whedon, is back on the schedule next year. The quote headlining this post is from Fox's Entertainment President, Kevin Reilly. You'd think with the mammoth Terminator movie opening on Friday that Fox would have been a little more forgiving of the tie-in TV show. Though her show has been cancelled, Summer Glau is still hotter than Eliza Dushku, although neither woman can really read promotional copy aloud in a convincing manner:

New Fox shows next year include a spin-off of The Family Guy and Human Target, a TV show based on a DC Comic about a man who disguises himself as people who are in mortal danger.

I'm glad they renewed Dollhouse - it's been uneven, but shows promise.

As to the Sarah Connor Chronicles ... that whole apocolypse stuff went out with the Red Bushies.

Fox still has original programming? I thought they only showed the 700 club any more.

Guess that's what I get for not watching tv

Please, please, please tell me that Peter Milligan is writing Human Target. Otherwise, it'll just be shite.

The movie was actually probably a bit of problem for the show since they exist in somewhat different continuity lines. Especially with the season ending with John Conner going to a future in which he doesn't exist...

What @4 said. The last Human Target series he did for DC was one of the all-time greats.

I tried hard to like the Sarah Connor chronicles but it just sucked too much.

I would totally do both those chicks in a heartbeat. Throw in Miss California on mute and I'd be in heaven.

Now I understand why Wheedon didn't have Glau speak many lines for "Firefly".

Looked at some of the other messageboards and found lots of vitriolic Sarah Connor fans spewing their hate at Fox and...at Dollhouse for surviving the cut. That's rather strange.

You're wrong Paul - Dushku is way hotter than Glau. I mean, they're both hot, but Glau's face is just plain weird....

That's weird. I've never heard Summer Glau speaking in a not-crazy voice.

Also? The Terminator show was so so much better than Dollhouse. And I'm a huge Joss Whedon fan, but seriously. The Terminator show was on a whole other level of not sucking.

I wouldn't be surprised if Glau showed up on Dollhouse at some point. Whedon often recasts actors from past shows in new roles.

Amy Acker is my favorite Whedon babe.

@9 - I agree, although I think they both look like they were born premature or something. Between Eliza's droopy eyes and Summer's Progeria-esque forehead, Eliza wins easily.

Does this mean they'll eventually air the 13th episode/season 1 epilogue/season 1-2 bridge?

@15: I hope so.

I was wondering (in a comment that got devoured by the server earlier) if the ending with Paul in episode 12 would have been different if they had known that the series was picked up for a 2nd season.

Nice to see that there are other folks here that watched "Dollhouse".

Yeah, Glau isn't anywhere near as hot as Dushku

I'm glad to see the Dollhouse come back, hopefully Echo/Caroline will be killed off no more than halfway through the season so that the rest of the stellar cast can do their thing.

I wish Firefly had gotten its much-deserved season 2...

@20: Sounds like all the protesting/campaigning that was done on behalf of Firefly (and the support for Serenity) helped make some folks at Fox adverse to the reaction that an early cancellation would cause.

Especially when you consider that many fans of Joss and Tim Minear had stated that they wouldn't watch the show just because it was on Fox and that Fox tended to cancel shows that they (Joss and Tim - but particularly Tim) were involved with.

@3: From what I've read, the new HT series is executive produced by McG, and directed by the guy who did the first Tomb Raider movie. So, probably not gonna do much for fans of Milligan's psychological loop-de-loops.
