I hope the Repubs have the bad sense to keep this guy around for a while. His comedy act is gold. For me to laugh at. For the GOP, it's the nutty topping on their shit sundae.

OK, was it just me, or was YouTube down for the entire world for just a few minutes just now?

If it wasn't just me, it was a bit creepy. Slog was almost rendered completely de-context'ed, as was every blog on the planet for a moment.

Are we too dependent on YouTube?

Anyway, carry on...

He makes a good point: straight marriage costs small businesses too much. They'd get much relief if we only allowed gay marriage. Something to consider.

Actually, businesses aren't required to grant benefits on the basis of marriage at all. Theoretically, an employer could choose to offer spousal benefits only to 2nd wives with blonde hair and size D breasts who were married in Las Vegas in June. Of course, if gay marriage becomes accepted and some business chooses to offer benefits only to opposite-sex spouses, you can be sure than Dan and company will do their best to get a law passed making such descrimination illegal.

Anyway, I am in agreement with fen @ 3. The right solution is to eliminate state-sponsored marriage entirely. There is zero justification for having government endorse and privledge any interpersonal relationships.

@4, I said no such thing. In the absence of some sort of universal health care model, there are good reasons for the government to advocate for the family unit. Otherwise, I would concur.

Hmmm, wait - I was thinking that not only is gay marriage fair, but in a way it would be good for small businesses. I had thought maybe the LGBT community would have latched onto something good and turned it into their own YEARS AGO so that by now it was a territory owned. If I was a big Nelly I would run to Walmart or any OTC kind of store for invites, supplies, shit like that - I'd turn to my local businesses first.

EDIT: If I were a big Nelly, I wouldn't = that's WOULDN'T - run to Wal Mart if I were fixin' to be wed.

Great post, Dan.

I have never, in all my life, seen bigger dumb-asses then the current base of the republican party. I keep thinking, this has got to be the end of such buffoonery, then they just keep moving the bar.

Again, another reason Republicans and conservatives should promote govt based health insurance, in order to relieve the burden on small businesses.

Republicans are so utterly confused at this point they don't know whether to scratch their watches or wind their asses.

Republican or democrat, makes no difference. All unearned benefits end eventually and those holding the bill for the party get mad and will attempt to get even. There is no natural model for distribution of unearned benefits gay or straight. Ii is not about the autism of who puts what into where. There is no natural model for support of non breeders at the expense of breeders. Gay or straight, one who spends other peoples resources is a parasite. There is only one natural model that works, and that is one of self sufficiency. This country is broke and the current currency is IOUs from us to us, which never works.
There is a natural progression from the necessary Marxism of childhood to the capitalism of adulthood. Break that and the model fails, always. The longer one dams up the natural tendency or water downhill the greater the disaster when the dam inevitably breaks. Being able to get ones kink on is about the success of being able to support by ones own action. Bypassing ones own success at this just aligns the dominos to fall with maximum pain. Defining a culture on its entertainments is a fools game. One must produce profits to extract benefits. Everyone cannot put in a dime and take out a dollar outside of a ponzi scheme be they bacteria, bird, breeder or non. The end result is intuitively clear to all.
Sorry..

Urgutha Forka @11: Ooh, I'll have to remember that phrase. Nice one.

The GOP and others on the Right have been dishing out so much crazy lately it's a wonder that they can still continue to top themselves.

Then again, who wants to stop them from self-destructing - as long as they become more and more powerless and alienate the voting majority from supporting their crazy thinking and policies - it's all to the good.

Regardless,
Orgasmocentrism is a piss poor lifestyle purseud in an altered state. It's only the success of breeders that keeps the party going and you survive only through their permission and largess. Functional conservatism is being able to pay for your own party, not who you screw. Nothing else works for long.

@13,
I wish I could claim originality on it, but I stole the "scratch the watch or wind the ass" line from the movie "Steel Magnolias."
Credit where credit's due...

When have the Republicans EVER given a shit about small businesses?

I know Republicans who, because they make $200,000 or $300,000 a year, constantly refer to the GOP as "my party." As with the small business owners of this country, the GOP really couldn't give a flying fuck about those people.

When you make $5 or $10 million a year, though, you might make it onto their radar.
