Thanks for Coming to Slog Happy!

Posted by on Fri, May 15, 2009 at 12:48 PM

I'm so glad there were so many new people at last night's Slog Happy! I was getting tired of all the regulars. I kid!

161c/1242426277-advicegivers.jpg

Anyway. Thanks to everyone who came out and played ping pong, gave some good (and funny) advice for Savage's next Savage Love column, grabbed a free book, ate some delicious looking nachos, drank Kokanee by the pitcher, believed the lies Dan told them about me turning everyone in the office into an alcoholic, and otherwise entertained me for a solid two hours.

I very much enjoyed the discussion about old Seattle bands and venues—Screaming Trees, Tkchung!, RKCNDY, OK Hotel. And Abby even brought my favorite tea! (Sweet Licorice Mint, I hope you all grabbed some, it's delicious.)

Matt Hickey took photos, and I'll be posting those soon, but for now, let us discuss where next month's Slog Happy will be! It'll be Thursday, June 11th. Suggestions? It might be sunny and warmer, so perhaps another outdoor place?

(Also: If you loved the Roanoke as much as I did—or even if you didn't—be sure to leave a review in our bar listings! They took good care of us last night.)

It was fun. I learned I hate Megan Seling, Dan Savage threw a rock at me, I successfully trolled writing on paper with the aid of Original Monique's fleshy man toy, licked a tree and smoked pot out of a pen cap.

Suggestion: King's Hardware.

I had a good time, met some great folks, Dan touched my butt accidentally: so accidentally I doubt he even knows he did...

There were less people than I would have thought, though... Mr. Poe does not look like you would think he does and Scary Tyler Moore is hot.

You should go next time... yeah, you.

It was fun. I learned that I'm not at all cut out to be a sex columnist, and I grabbed a neat-lookin book.

hooray

@2 Kings is not a bad idea! Maybe we should settle this war over skeeball, Mr. Poe.

I'd rather slap you in the face, but skeeball works!

Has it ever been done in Fremont? Nectar has a nice outdoor area.

What exactly were you expecting?

@7

Fremont blows. That would be fail.

@6 Yeah, I choose skeeball over the alternative.

@7 We've never done one in Fremont, no. Nectar's not a bad idea either! That early in the evening, we'd probably be safe from the retired fratboys that invade the neighborhood after 9 pm.

Man, I am HURTING from last night. I drank 2 pitchers. To myself.

Glad to meet everyone who was new to the Slog Happy! I told you we were nice. :)

And Fremont blows. I third the Kings suggestion

@10,

The obnoxious crowd doesn't generally arrive until later in the evening, true. And they tend to prefer places like the Red Door, the Ballroom, and the High Dive anyway.

Nectar actually has a very cool vibe and good happy hour specials.

Dan,
It was great to meet you ...again! at SLOG Happy. I am the fella from Oak Park, IL. I like that Roanoke Tavern especially that tiered outdoor patio with the ping-pong tables. And, that Brown Beer (Georgetown Brewery) was delicious. Mike, the carpenter was a hoot no? Yeah, I recommend that book I am reading and brought with me, "Worst Instincts" by Wendy Kaminer. It's an inside critique of the ACLU. Very good.

The next Slog Happy should be in Fremont. That way we can socially write-off all those who attend.

Thanks to everyone that was so inviting. I'll definitely come to Slog Happys (or is it Happies?). Scary Tyler Moore, I owe you a drink next time. Also, @15...I agree.

I'd definitely come to one at King's Hardware. I'll even bring back American Lion to pass on to FMT if he still wants it.

yes. fun, as always. nice to meet some of the new people and nice to see the regulars again. though I was very disappointed that I wasn't able to come up with any witty or interesting advice for the SL letters....

thank you, womyn2me. i had a lovely time, too. jonah 'mr. grabbypants' spaghetti-lee overwhelmed me with a big ol' bear hug, and kept his age-baiting to a minimum. and mr. poe never looked lovelier!

I had a great time talking to everyone. It was surprisingly difficult to think up any kind of clever advice for the Savage Love letters. That Kokanee was killer, I ended up feeling pretty inebriated by the time we left, although as a consequence I did manage to extend my Slog Happy streak of managing to spill beer on my shirt.

Nectar is too close to my townhouse - I might have to call the cops on people after I leave. ;-)

Was very fun, hope people like Mr. Herriman got a free glass of Kokanee from the pitcher I got - see, we don't bite! much.

I had fun. I didn't get to talk to as many people as I would've liked to, but that's what next time is for. I did forget to grab a couple of teabags on my way out, though. Bummer. Where did it come from?

Spilt beer, free books, tea bags and amateur sex advice...I should really start going to these things (especially when they are just down the street from me). Fuck my Thursday nite AA meetings...I'm coming! (Just a joke and no offense to those who do go to AA).

I was suprised by Mr Poe's decidedly young, hip, fit, and attractive appearence... not what I imagined based on his sarcasim levels I thought he would be more unfortunate looking... And @25 Womyn2me it was lovly meeting you and Mr Poe is "kinda a twink" like a rats kinda hairy...

COMTE 32
@26:

I was just about to suggest Fremont Dock, since it does have a deck, albeit somewhat smallish, and it's far enough off the Fremont Ave/Leary Way nexus to probably not get the obnoxious frat boy treatment.

Or, what about Ivar's? It's Old School Seattle, has a big outside deck right on the lake, and we can hurl insults at the minions slaving away in Chihuly's studio next door.

IVAR'S!!!!

Then I can canoe home!

Fastest non-car way to get there is get off the 49 right after it crosses the University Bridge when heading north, then walk, if you're on the Hill. Or if in U Dist, hop the 46 express bus heading to Ballard and get off right before it heads under the Burke-Gilman, under I-5.

I've heard King's Hardware is good, and is fine with me. Maybe for July we should go someplace down in SODO. Or Alki, since the weather will be great.

Hey, you guys don't look scary at all - in fact, you guys look downright welcoming (a theory that I'll put to the test if my travels bring me to town in range of a Slog Happy).

It looks like a great time was had by all (and, yeah, I'm just a tad jealous, sniff).

There was talk amongst Megan and Matt about kick ball. Where did this wonderful idea go. Surely there is a baseball diamond or field in Seattle that we could drink at and enjoy a day at the park. Maybe. If not skeeball is fun, but no where as enjoyable. Everyone there of course was fun and enjoyable yada yada yada. By the way the spell check options for skeeball include an option for sleazeball. maybe this could be a kick ball like game that the stranger could determine Calvin-ball rules for. If by chance you are not familiar with Calvin-ball then you simply suck.

Kickball is the best when it's on a beach, or near a lake.

Then when you get too hot, you just boot it into the water, go after it, and are nice and refreshed.

Don't try this after three glasses of Kokanee though ...
